I have many photos of the GC hanging on my walls. The first ones were taken with an Olympus OM1 & 50mm. On many trips with digital I took a Canon 6d and my favorite lens, 24-105. A longer lens can be very effective because of the distances. If anyone is physically capable I strongly suggest a look below the rim. My favorite trip is down the South Kaibab trail to Cedar Ridge. Many photos ops down the trail, I could spend almost an entire day going down and up while taking my time. It's only 1 1/2 miles to the ridge and late afternoon gives the best light. I also suggest walking the rim and also taking your time, the regular tourist spots can be very crowded........Oh yea take Water....

I also recommend the Tokina 100mm. I tried tube extensions, lens reversal and just getting close. My best results were the Tokina. I too love flowers, bees and any chance to get close. Whatever lens you go for make sure you get to 1:1, and it's also a very good portrait lens without a huge expense......

I teethed on an Olympus OM1 (still have it)....have a Canon 6d, SL2 and an OLY Tough.....keep a 50mm on the SL2 M 1/100 f16 ISO 100 for starters......I've learned to dislike manuals, especially bad ones.......occasionally I'll use aperture priority.....I'm lazy and try to keep is simple, when using off camera flash I'll use exposure comp.....I'm very open to learning something new but hesitate when faced with unnecessary complexities....

I've become quite fond of the dust spots on my metal prints.......Desert scene, just about sundown, right at the top of the sky, with beautiful changing colors.......sigh....

Perhas the OP is just kidding! Or maybe he is just someone who does not take his photography or himself too seriously and just wants to have fun with a casual hobby wants to mess around with some quick and dirty "special effects". Maybe he is into self-effacing humour- he says his friends think he a great photographer because he has a great camera. If he can change the "heavens" in a picture, his friends will be all the more impressed.

He not necessarily lazy. Maybe he hasn't the time to wait around all day for a perfect sky or spend hundreds of hours in editing. Lots of good folks just want instant gratification! Not everyone is a connoisseur or aficionado of fine photographic art or a master photograher.

I know folks who say they are "audiophiles" and have tens of thousands of dollars worth of top-of-the-line quadraphonic gear. But they are tone-deaf and know nothing about music! The just like booming bass and disturbing the neighbours. They enjoy their music on an oscilloscope and take pride in that only the family cat can actually hear the high end of the audio spectrum that their gear reproduces.

To each his/her own! If you think the OP is joking, you have a few options= humour him, ignore him, or join in with the fun. If you think his question is legitimate- help the guy out!

Perhas the OP is just kidding! Or maybe he is jus... (show quote)

My solution is simple....take a bad photo.....put it in a cheap Wallyworld frame....hang it in my bedroom......tell myself how great I am......Sigh....I'm so good.....
