I have many photos of the GC hanging on my walls. The first ones were taken with an Olympus OM1 & 50mm. On many trips with digital I took a Canon 6d and my favorite lens, 24-105. A longer lens can be very effective because of the distances. If anyone is physically capable I strongly suggest a look below the rim. My favorite trip is down the South Kaibab trail to Cedar Ridge. Many photos ops down the trail, I could spend almost an entire day going down and up while taking my time. It's only 1 1/2 miles to the ridge and late afternoon gives the best light. I also suggest walking the rim and also taking your time, the regular tourist spots can be very crowded........Oh yea take Water....
Love them all but seem #4 is my fav. I have GC photos all over my house, many trips and another planed very soon. Each time a new experience. TY for posting these....
I also recommend the Tokina 100mm. I tried tube extensions, lens reversal and just getting close. My best results were the Tokina. I too love flowers, bees and any chance to get close. Whatever lens you go for make sure you get to 1:1, and it's also a very good portrait lens without a huge expense......
I teethed on an Olympus OM1 (still have it)....have a Canon 6d, SL2 and an OLY Tough.....keep a 50mm on the SL2 M 1/100 f16 ISO 100 for starters......I've learned to dislike manuals, especially bad ones.......occasionally I'll use aperture priority.....I'm lazy and try to keep is simple, when using off camera flash I'll use exposure comp.....I'm very open to learning something new but hesitate when faced with unnecessary complexities....
I've become quite fond of the dust spots on my metal prints.......Desert scene, just about sundown, right at the top of the sky, with beautiful changing colors.......sigh....
My solution is simple....take a bad photo.....put it in a cheap Wallyworld frame....hang it in my bedroom......tell myself how great I am......Sigh....I'm so good.....
