Unfortunately we never worked on cameras, just binoculars, telescopes, gunsites, etc. The watch repair shop was in the same division just about 15 feet from my shop, too bad I didn't have him teach me watch repair. I loved being out to sea also, my shop was on the back of the boat deck and when we were on a cruise I used to take a chair out behind the shop and sit and watch the wake when ever I could.

Hi, I was in the Navy also, stationed aboard the USS Ajax AR6 (heavy hull repair) in Sasebo, Japan. I was an optical instrument repairman, looking back I should have been a sonar man). Got out in 1964.

To add to my recent post, I just remembered I got an email from Oly a couple days ago that the 70-300 is on sale for $299 if anyone's interested. You might get lucky and save $100 on ebay but you don't get the warranty.

I really wish I had some spare change ... I'd love to grab it. Oh well.

Welcome to the club, I've been wondering how I can squeeese it into my budget also.

You can find adapters to fit almost any lens to any camera body at places like B&H, adorama, KEH, and even ebay. I have been watching several 40-150 and 70-300 Zuiko lenses on ebay. Many are less than $300. I'm keeping in mind that the Zuiko lenses were designed specificaly for Olympus cameras. Just my 2 cents worth.

I think he was checking out your guide bushings. A bad bushing can damage your line.

I used to have an Olympus P&S. I don't even remember which one it was. A little 3MP 3x zoom. It took great pics as long as whatever I wanted to take a picture of was dead or an inanimate object. God forbid I try to get a picture of my daughter riding her bike. I'm sure the DSLRs are a lot better, but I never got over how slow that thing was.

Actually, I also had one of those Oly P&S and it was a total slug ... so slow that if it went any slower, it would have to had been going backwards. That's why i wound up with Canon P&S cameras for a decade and eventually, a Canon DSLR and then full circle back to the Olympus 4/3 PEN, which is a great little camera and very fast.

Their early entries into the point and shoot market were awful. The auto focus took forever, the recycle time was painfully slow as was the flash. All around bad camera.

I had had Oly 35mm film cameras and they were fine, so when I got an automatic camera, I went with a brand I knew.

I had the same experience as you. I haven't tried any of the point and shoot cameras since. I have to assume they have improved since then. I sure hope so! Their other cameras are fine. Probably, by now, so are their point and shoots.

I have several friends who have the new P&S Oly's and they are very nice. I just had an art show here and one of the Oly photos got a 3rd place ribbon.

Hi I am using Olympus E-620 camera. And I realized what Olympus is not popular camera. I didn’t see any post or reviews about Olympus cameras on this forum. Why? Thank you.

Hi, DPM, I have a 510 and the more I learn about it the more I like it. I especially like the in body image stabilizer. On you tube you can find some great reviews for Oly's.

846 You commented that the 10mp camera will take better pics than the 18mp. If that's true why didn't we stick with the original 1.2mp cameras, why do they keep getting bigger every year???
