I don't particularly like the curved screens - agree about the gaming. I have a long flat one that's 4k and I use it kinda like the 2 23" monitors set up, except it's flat, but the resolution is great. I think it's an LG. It's hard sometimes to match colors on two monitors.

Ah, the lament of specialty clubs — where are the young?

We are having the same problems with our local photography club and art league. Both are populated by the superannuated. And we also are trying to attract younger folks. But it is hard.

Why? Well, both spouses work. Since they both work, housework, chores, and errands are shared. Evenings and/or weekends they are chauffeuring the kids to all sorts of activities and practices (spare us the "in my day..." comments). Of course that also means they are hanging around these activities because they also have to get the kids back home. The bottom line is the young are already running their asses off just keeping up with life.

Think of it. How many folks put their hobbies aside until the kids leave home or retirement comes? I suspect it is an awful lot of us. I know that's how it has been for me. The RV waited until my daughter was in college. The boat waited until she was out of college. The camera waited until retirement. I am guessing a similar story can be told by many others.

Also this. I'm a mom of three under 10 and I can't imagine running all three to separate sports all the time. Maybe I'm not there yet.

I am lucky enough not to have to work, so I can futz with photos I've taken sometimes. On vacations and holidays I bring my big camera, but with kids it's just hard to carry and extra 3 to 4 pounds. I have to be one handed at the very least.

I've always liked taking pictures, so maybe it's just something certain people will always be attracted to. People will find each other.

How to get more people here? I mean why would you want the quality of people to change? But a lot of stuff would be needed. Reddit is a forum of sorts and it seems popular, but there's a sub reddit for everything, not just photography. I use dpreviews forums also.

Software, searchability, keywords for search engines, an app, general user interface updates, cross advertising on social media, the list could go on. People like clickable fast food content now. Not sure this would lend itself to that.

I can remember some older people saying the same thing about us back in the 60s. They were wrong.

Perhaps, but they didn't have Netflix or smartphones or video games to contend with really. Now all free time is spent on social media, navel gazing, or something with a screen. Technology has made things better, but also more complicated.

I'm 40 btw. Not sure how I found you guys, but I find forums have way better info than the keyword loaded garbage blogs put out.

Forums are low effort for information. You don't have to type out a whole blog post or plan them out, schedule them, run the whole thing by yourself. You get maximum experience funneled into low time for each member who replies. The information in forums is great but I can't find them in searches anymore.

I'd rather search a cooking forum about user experience than a "top 10 kitchen gadgets" post any time.

I rented one and it was much sharper than I expected on my Canon R and 6D II. I could hand hold it for about 30 minutes but I'm a 130lb lady, so I'm sticking with the infinitely lighter Tamron 100-400. If I had a do over and more money I'd do the canon 100-400 ii and a 1.4 extender.

Damn! You mean you got an R body for $1,300?

I did, with the adapter. It was too good to pass up.

If you think the R price is good now, you missed the $1299 deal B and H had over the holidays! I don't think you'll regret it regardless. I am enjoying mine. if you can afford a new model then go ahead and wait, or get something now to enjoy until then.

Another vote for Google Photos. It's easy and it even displays them as a nice gallery and there is a download all option.

For photoshop I love my medium. I prefer the feel of the older intuos 4, the newer ones have a bit more grain on the drawing surface, particularly the pro, but that's personal preference. It took me about a week to get the hang of looking at the screen while drawing on the tablet. I had a draw on screen version and couldn't get over the separation between the pen and digitizer through the glass so went back to the tablet only. The pressure sensitivity is great, but if you don't need that to post process it probably won't add anything, but I'd give it a good two weeks before you return it and see if it adds to your workflow.

Yea that sounds like a small tablet. I'd try sizing up to a medium before buying a new pc. That should give you about an 8x6 active area. Good luck!

I considered this for a long time, but opted for a laptop with 4k screen and more processing power instead of a stylus capable screen. I have had a wacom mobile tablet pc and found the parallax disorienting. Meaning you can feel the distance from the pen to the actual screen digitizer since the pen floats on the surface glass a bit, and the pen never calibrated perfectly with it so it was off in the corners. Some screens are better than others I'm sure.

I prefer the set up you have currently, but what size tablet are you using? Perhaps you need to size up.
