Have a group of picture files that need to be sent right away to family member. Please let me what methods you use. I use windows not apple. Thank you very in advance for your help.
The photos were taken at high resolution but none of these will be printed beyond 8×10.

Email if the file size is less than 20Meg total of all images, or individually if 1 or 2.
Otherwise I put them up on One Drive and send people a link to get them.

Consider whether they need 'high resolution'. For your intended print size, that would be files roughly 2400 x 3000 pixels for prints at 300 ppi (pixels per inch). Are you just dumping this issue onto the family members, or should you add value by sizing the pixel resolution to the intended use. This post provides multiple examples of the process, with screen prints, at the bottom of the post. Recommended resizing parameters for digital images

Wetransfer.com. Put them in a zip file, go to wetransfer.com and follow instructions (use free version) and send. Just did this for a family member. If the zip file is too large then just do 2 zip files. I did over 150 high res pictures in one file without a problem recently. Use to do gigabyte graphic files all the time without any issues. Good luck.

If you have software that supports FTP (File Transfer Protocol) then you pretty much are not limited to copying/transferring files to anyone.

Is it real simple to send files to someone with FTP?
How do I connect to their computer?
Do they need to be running FTP also?

The rationale behind Dropbox and other cloud-based services is that instead of "sending" anything to anyone, you "post" images to an internet address, and share that link with others. I have posted individual files as large as 2 GB, and entire weddings and other events, with as many as 1000 images or more. The genius of this solution is that there is no "real" limitation on file size, resolution, etc. There is a practical limitation - you can't really be uploading 10 gb of files every few hours - most services will either throttle or just refuse to accept the files. And huge file transfers will take a while. The cool thing is that you only do this one time, and you can give the link to as many people as you want.

Free, works great, you don't need to zip the files, you can transfer up to 2 GB at a time, and REAL SIMPLE to use.
You may also send files to more than one address.

I don't do it often but I used Nikon Image Space and it works OK. I used DropBox many years ago. I don't know which is better but both are OK.
