FotoHog posted a very cool image of a beautiful weed. The discussion that followed was an interesting look at what constitutes a weed and why one plant may be desirable and another not. Here is a thistle that has been determined to be a "noxious" plant here in Montana and is requested to be eradicated wherever it is found as it is not a native plant and takes over wherever it grows! However, it is kinda pretty...

It looks like a thistle to me, and we have plenty here in Texas! They have beautiful coloring.

This is another specimen from Bill's collection. I don't know what it is other than it has long antenna and powerful mandibles. It's rather flat and a dark maroon color. Hopefully Bill will fill us in on the particulars of this interesting specimen.

This is a focus stacked image taken with my most often used arrangement of two reverse mounted lenses connected to each other mounted on a set of extension tubes. Illumination is also my go-to arrangement of translucent drink cups and white paper towel with constant LED and fiber optic lights.

Thanks ever so much in advance to those who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Excellent macro work! Very sharp and well-exposed. It almost looks like the venerable old cockroach.

I remember my mother had a cat. The Christmas tree would be up and every so often I’d hear a crash. I peeked around the corner and saw the cat, her hand under the ball delicately lifting the ball with its hook off of the bottom limbs, hitting it hard with her paw and smashing it against the wall. She thought it was great fun. My mom said it was okay—my mom would put the cheap, older, worn-out balls that she really didn’t want anymore on the very bottom of the tree.

Cute! It takes creativity to deal with these cats.

Spent the morning out getting these images. There are a whole lot more but my computer is trying to die and I can't get them imported from my camera!

Your beautiful images look as though they belong in a bird reference book. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful captures! ... not just the birds, but the misty shot is especially nice. <3

Your photos of this area tug at my heart. My folks met in their high school years in Dalton Gardens ... and my dad's eldest brother lived on Hayden Lake for years. Lots of memories from that beautiful part of the world.

Oooooh, I love your #2 misty afternoon shot! What do you call a "herd" of eagles? They are such beautiful, majestic birds. Thanks for sharing your images.

Love your capture! It's bright and well-composed. I was there 30+ years ago and the scene never gets old.

A trucker who has been out on the road for two months stops at a brothel outside Atlanta. He walks straight up to the Madam, drops down $500 and says, "I want your ugliest woman and a grilled cheese sandwich!" The Madam is astonished. "But sir, for that kind of money you could have one of my prettiest ladies and a three-course meal." The trucker replies, "Listen darlin’, I’m not horny – I’m just homesick."

This is a bridge located just south of Rehoboth Beach, DE on Coastal Hwy (Rt 1) I've always thought of it as a beautiful bridge. One day, I'd like to get a night time shot.

Nice images, Tom. Some night exposures would be outstanding. We have a similar bridge here, just east of downtown Houston in eastern Harris County.
