I have seen this topic come up any time on different sites and it reminds of my first SLR camera, from the age of film, cameras my was a Yashica FX II with a 50 mm lens. When I first started making pictures with it I discovered what I was framing through the view finder was larger in area than captured on film. In other words the exposure was cropped at the focal plane by the camera compared to what was seen through the view finder. The focal length of the lens did not change. This is what happens when a lens designed for a full frame DSLR is used on a crop sensor.
