I use a monopod and the Wimberley Monogimbal. The nice thing about a carbon-fiber gimbal is that it's not too heavy to pick up the whole thing to follow a fast bird.

Great shot. I have a chocolate lab and am having a terrible time with the lighting. Would you mind telling us how you lit the shot? thanks

Jim, great shots. Do you know if the Trogons will stay the summer. I'm outside of Phoenix, and it's a long trip just to try and get a photograph.

Nice light on the old station. I'm glad that Rutgers decided to restore and make use of the building. And, it's great that they kept the original color. As always, thanks for the memories. BTW, jig a plastic shrimp as you drift Grassy. I used to just set the rods in the holders and let the rock of the boat do the jigging. That worked 50 years ago, it's sure to work now!

Ron, d500 with a Nikon 200-500 zoom. While I make a few changes, I usually have my settings at f5.6 and speed around 1/2000 to be ready for that quick take off. I allow my iso to run in auto. I am usually all the out at 500mm, but for these, I would sometimes be dialed back toward 300 depending on the size of the bird and the distance to perch. Hope that helps

Tony is doing great, and if you've been there, you know that his garden is a photographers dream. Obviously, this hasn't been a good year with a lot of cancellations during what should have been his best time.

Very good visual harvest Art!
What kind of equipment (camera model, lens focal length, tripod) did you use?
Thank you for sharing!

Nikon d500 with a Nikon 200-500. Mostly at 500, other than the Jay were I backed off a little, I use a monopod since I find that gives me quicker access to the subject. I have a gimbal on a tripod, but don't like it as well. I generally keep my lens at 5.6 with a speed of 1/2000 and Auto ISO.

I just spent a few days at Battiste's BBB in Hereford, AZ trying to get some bird photos. I'm curious to know of your thoughts.

I just purchased one for Photoshop, and that's great. I'm curious if many of you have gone totally to the pen for such things as scrolling? I'm finding that I can't go away from the mouse, or at least the touch mode on the tablet to scroll Internet pages.

I took these three shots of the Newport, OR harbor, and am looking of possibly hanging one. I'm new at this, so I wanted to ask your comments of the crops. I know I have some work to do regarding a dirty sensor, but I'm primarily looking for some thoughts about the exposure and particularly the composition. Thanks

Nicely done! The background is perfect for a duck hunting dog. Nothing like a Lab!

Marlin fishing is 99% boredom and 1% panic. But, the action, when it comes, is the ultimate adrenaline rush.

I shoot a lot of birds. When I'm walking around looking, I shoot with a carbon fiber monopod with a Wimberley monopod gimbal, but when I'm going to sit and wait for them to come to me I use a good stable tripod and a Wimberley gimbal.

My monopod bullhead has two moving parts, the ball and one knob. What are all these parts you are referring too? My tilt head has the tilt mechanism, two short handles and a little knob. That's four things. I can handle both, and the camera, just fine. Try not scare people who are just trying to figure things out.

I stand corrected. I should have said directions, not parts. In my opinion, since the monopod easily moves horizontally, there is no need for that axis on a head. For a long time I used no head, but find that having a vertical adjustment is handy. Personally, I see no need for the unlimited angles allowed by the ball head. I would rather just move the monopod around.

I can't image a ball head on a monopod - too many moving parts and not enough hands. I recently purchased the new Wimberley monopod gimbal and love it. Wimberley is class stuff and, in my opinion, worth the price.
