Others have said that the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens is not sharp at the long end. I have that lens and have been very pleased with my shots taken at 600mm but possibly I have lower expectations than others. I'm posting a couple edited images taken at 600mm and I want to know if these images would have been sharper if taken with the Nikon 200-500mm lens. There's nothing to stop me from buying the Nikon lens if the consensus is that it will produce superior images. All opinions are much appreciated.

I think the pictures are excellent. Being a Canon guy, I can't speak to how the Nikon lens would perform, but personally I'd be happy with the lens you have.

True, but I have a tough time affording a decent used lens. I would have an L II in a minute, but I don't have that kind of money. Pension and a sick wife leave with little money for other things. At least with digital, it's nice not paying for film processing and prints...

SO- how much do you want for it? I'm using a used 5D mk ii, and living on disability, but since I can't afford the Canon L series, maybe I can afford this one.

[quote=curtthurmond68]Tamron SP 24-70 mm F/2.8 Di VC USD for Canon EF Mount. Model A007E w/UV

I'm interested. Does this lens equate to the canon mark II 24-70?
And would you accept $600 ?

Hi Randy.
I'm interested in the 70-200 2.8, I have the f4-5.6 version but want a faster lens.
Also interested in a couple 22's. Looking for a backpack/takedown model, and also like the 10-22.

I don't have any good lenses to trade obviously, other than a really nice 35-105 FD but there's always greenbacks, right?

Used to have some nice stuff but had to liquidate when I could no longer work and it took 2 years to get the VA to up my disability.

I loved and used my A-1 all over the world. I highly recommend it over the AE-1. Sold mine a few years back when the money got tight. Still have my wife's AE 1 and a couple good FD lenses. If you're still looking, I'll ask her if she'll part with it.

I went back to college to learn how to be better with the DSLR. (Was a film guy for 30 years). As you all know, there's a lot to learn.
That being said, my instructor does quite a bit using a light meter when composing shots for flash/portrait photography. The meter he uses costs about $240.
Does anyone know of an affordable light meter? I don't plan on going into portraiture, and wonder if I even need one when all I'll be using is a speed light. There will be times I'll be doing favors for friends & family taking family or holiday pix, but that's about it
Your advice please.

I went back to college to learn more about digital so I can get better, and early on they're talking about post processing, etc. The only tools I currently have is what came with Win 10. I know a little about Photoshop. A little. Don't understand layers, what it means, how it works or how to. Yet.

I do know it is expensive software, like $500-600. Not exactly in my budget-pension only goes so far.
I've seen some talk about Lightroom (I think that's the name). How does that compare, and what's it cost?
I prefer as user friendly as possible. Later, if I get really into it, I would save up for PS.
Also, is there any good freeware out there?

I started doing film with an SLR in 1974. I have tons of negatives, and of course it is hard to read them. Short of taking batches to some place that still makes prints from negs and making tons of strip prints, what can I do? I had several that were very good, and 6 that won contests, including All Army in 1983. I really want to have enlargements done.
Is there some magic software that can convert a neg to a positive? Then they could be saved to digital.
Had a similar question like the person who wanted to save slides. I have a photo scanner, but max resolution is 3800. Is that enough for good prints, or do I need a newer one with better resolution?
Thanks

More details: I have a T3i I've been using for probably 10 years, and just bought a used 5Dii that I'm just learning how to use. I have an EF 28-80 IS as the main lens for the 5, and the EF 75-300 for both cameras. I know the 75-300 isn't a very good lens; anything under $100 can't be too good.
I'm an older guy; started in 35mm 40 years ago. Got pretty good at it. Have 3 magazine covers to my credit and a handful of awards in the 80's.
Switched to DSLR a dozen years ago. Had major spinal problems that resulted in surgery, down time, rehab, loss of job, etc. A few years later another surg on my neck that the VA messed up leaving me with nerve damage in both hands. I didn't do much with the camera for a very long time. I want to get back in the game. I forgot a lot, and am guilty of letting the automation do too much thinking for me. Several years of slacking.
Now, I have the 5D, half ass lenses-tho I wish I could use a couple of my good FD-and will start photog classes at college even tho I'm not pursuing cert/degree.

So I'm asking y'all to teach me a little. School will help me recover my memory of photo fundamentals, but I'm way behind on current equipment-primarily the lenses. I'm retired on disability pension, so money is an issue. Pretty good at scrounging; $1200 lenses are not gonna happen. I'm 30 mi ouside Chicago-big market available.

Thank you

I've seen quite a few good photos where people used a 2x converter. Since they run from cheap crap to $$$, what's a good one to use on Canon EF ? Probably can't afford the best, and wouldn't use it all that often anyway-but I'd like to get a decent one. So far, the 75-300 is all I have in a zoom though I'm looking to affordably upgrade.

Has anyone taken the Annie Leibovitz online photography class? Is it good? Is it worth the $80? The perspective here is someone who has some experience, but basically your average amateur. I was thinking about giving it a shot, and just looking to see is some folks think it's worth the cost. FWIW, I'm on a pension, so don't have hundos to toss around on stuff-got to get my money's worth.
