Exactly! The "doom & gloomers" give too much credit to the machines themselves. They're envisioning situations where "Hal" will take over the world. AI is a tool nothing more. Of course, the tool could be misused in the wrong hands, but that's true for any tool, right? I'm pretty excited about it. Bring it on.

I often use the color filters that are in Nik Silver Efex. The impact will depend on which color you use as each lets through its own color of light and blocks other colors to varying degrees.

This was my final result:

Basalt Cliff by Linda Shorey, on Flickr

I actually ended up using a yellow filter with the Silver Efex preset "high structure" and other edits, including levels adjustments (similar to curves). But, the blue and red examples below show you the most dramatic differences, as would green or red when shooting a red rose with green leaves.

As first steps to editing the raw file, I will often push the saturation or vibrance sliders in PS Elements version of ACR in order to exaggerate the original captured colors. The basalt rocks in this photo are not that yellow But doing this will make the result more pronounced when using colored filters in your black and white conversion.

When I used to shoot w/film, the red filter always gave me the best results for my taste. Same holds true here.

Same here. If I want Google, I should get Google, not Bing or OneDrive or whatever else is being promoted. Might try Duck Duck.

Consider using a scanner for these, or re-orienting the camera to eliminate the distortion. Also, consider cleaning up the backgrounds instead of replacing them.

That's what I would do. These photos are not retouched.

Someone suggested the government do something about all the commercials. That won't happen. What's happening is the broadcasters need more money. Their executive pay is skyrocketing while revenue is shrinking. Broadcast TV is going downhill what with all the cable/streaming services so they put in more ads to get more money. They don't think about lowering expenses!. Soon broadcast TV will have the same problems that newspapers are facing - possible extinction. For us, we use the recorder with the Dish system and then fast-forward the commercials. I refuse to watch commercials anymore.

Broadcast tv needs to stop cancelling good, engaging shows. Reality tv & game shows don't do it for most of us. I know, they're cheaper to produce but the audience isn't going to hang around.

Man, these folks are spending a huge amount of money on ads! You can hardly watch TV without one of their ads coming up in just about every break and I get at least 20 to 30 e-mail ads a week as well. Now they have even re-branded the product to pull in male customers by calling it "Mando." Personally, I would rather stink than buy this product due to all the annoying ads! Just wondering if anyone else here is sick of hearing about it as well and needed to vent a bit. Good luck and good photography to all.

I notice other deodorant companies are jumping on the bandwagon with their own "whole-body" versions. I shower daily & use the under-arm stuff. So far no complaints so I'm good.

We wanted a birdbath, so we went online to Home Depot. There were dozens of models listed, so we drove the local store, where we were told "Oh, we don't stock those in the store anymore, haven't in years."

Even when there is a store, it is just a pick-up point for your online purchase. Maybe I'm just not with it anymore, but I like to see and touch some things before I lay out cash for them...

Ever try to buy shoes online? I do most of my shopping online but have found shoes to be difficult. A decent shoe store would be great.

The back & forth of the size & readability aside, I find emotions are an intrinsic element in photography. How we feel about the subject, are we "in the mood" to take photos, all influence the end result. Many years ago I worked on a project with another person who was overbearing, to say the least. Each day we headed out to the wilderness to capture relevant landscapes. Each day felt like I was being bullied into taking pictures. I hated it. Eventually, I learned to suppress my resentment & envelope myself in the subject & the work. The difference in my emotions could be seen quite starkly in the quality of my work.

Changing bags for sheet film are a problem. You need to get the film into the holder and the darkslide in place without depositing any of the thousands of specs of dust and lint and hair etc. that's in the bag on the film. This is complicated by the fact that it's really easy for sheet film to pick up an electrostatic charge. I have been forced on occasion to load 4x5 film in a changing bag and I have been badly bitten. I guess I should have vacuumed it out a few more times?

You say you have a bathroom with no windows -- you should be able to make that dark. Work at night and turn off lights outside the bathroom. Load the film there as well as the daylight tank.

Daylight sheet film processing tanks are a problem. I doubt if anyone is still trying to design one that allows for intermittent agitation while evenly developing the film without streaks. One that rolls with constant agitation may be OK. When I used to use one that was designed for intermittent agitation what I did was use that dark bathroom and place the tank in a tray with the lid off. Then using my gloved hand I would reach into the tank and grab the film holder and manually agitate it -- that worked.

Bathroom hint: Fighting dust on larger film surfaces is a hassle. If a dark bathroom has a shower then run the hot water in the shower for a few minutes and get some moisture into the air, then wait a few minutes to load or dry film. That moisture will help settle out the dust and you'll have cleaner film.

Best of luck to you.

Yes but quite unattractive in a photo. An entire herd of horses produces an extraordinary amount of poop.
