I am an avid photography with several bodies. I think you will suffer on such a long hike with all of that equipment. I came back from the Galapagos with some beautiful shots but an aching back and a torn rotator cuff.

I have a g15 which has very nice quality, flash, and zoom lense.

Recommend you consider this or something similar. Unless you are going to blow your shots up very large the quality with this camera is excellent. The cost of medical care afterwards will make this camera cheap in the end. Good luck.

I have a 7D and a Mark 5D. Love the 7D that I bought primarily for wildlife and sports. Bought mine used on-line and love it. Don't think it is worth trading up at all. Even if the technology is a few years old it is reliable and the photo quality can't be beat and todays price is very reasonable.

Photomatix is easy to use and inexpensive. It is also a plug in with Lightroom. I like the program very much.

I was just browsing the sight today and came across your question. I am a 5D user and have all l lenses. The 70-200 2.8 is so heavy that I would never take it on a trip like you are doing, although it is a great lense. It is also very expensive.

I suggest that you buy a Canon G15. It is a wonderful camera and you will able to have a full set of controls including the ability to shoot raw. It is small enough to put into your pocket and forget about and it takes wonderful photos.

It will fit within your budget or try it at Best Buy and if you don't like it return it for a full refund!

Has anyone used an underwater housing for the Canon G15? If so, which one and were you satisfied.

As an option, I am considering buying an inexpensive pt an shoot that has underwater capabilities. Any recommendations for my Gallapogos trip in May??

You didn't state whether the lense is stabilized? This can mean a big difference in the sharpness of handheld shots.

Also, I noticed branches and other stuff in front of the main image. On auto focus it will pick up these items and not the bird leaving the prime subject blurred.

Suggest that in situations like this that you use manual focus only.

If your lense is not stabilize a much faster shutter speed (which might necessitate a higher ISO) might be necessary.

Versiion 1 is better in my opinion. I like the contrast between the white in the coat and the dark coloration.

I own the 24-105. Love this lens. With stabilization it is wonderful in low light situations. It is smaller and lighter than the 2.8. Cant imagine why anyone would want both lenses when you could boost the iso. If money is not the issuers consider getting the 70-200 also.

I have purchased from Ryther with no problem. Be careful to ask all of the important questions: Is it grey market - they offer both if you ask. Does it come with the batteries? What is the warranty? Who pays for shipping, etc. I would ask these questions of any mail order house.
