Is it worth the price difference?

Hi Julian,
Yes, it is worth the price difference. I have been using Capture One (C1) since version 7 and have been completely satisfied with this program. I will tell you that once you get used to using C1, as it does have a steeper learning curve, it has a lot to offer in flexibility and beautiful results. My experience is that every new release of C1 gets better, faster, and more powerful. I had a close look at On1 and as nice as it is, Capture One still out performs On1. I am also a Beta tester for C1 and they are responsive to user input.
May I suggest a side by side trial of both in order to see what suits your needs best? I believe both have free trials available.

I do not believe it's not okay to accept bad behavior because it's the internet, let alone any circumstance. It is inevitable that those instances will occur on any social media platform, as well as socially acceptable behavior. My suggestion to this new member to ignore the BS that occurs in some threads and focus on the relevant answers was designed to be helpful, no more, no less.

I fail to see how ignoring poor behavior is contributing to the problem. The best way to handle that is to report the offending post to admin for a determination. Ignoring snarky or rude comments diminishes the power and control the person making them derives. With respect, what are your suggestions to remedy this problem?

I fully agree. If we don't help newcomers, where are our new members going to come from? I thought the main purpose of this site was to connect photographers of all levels of skill so that we could all learn from the experience. Fortunately, there are enough members willing to answer a question that many consider basic but these folks with negative still leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Well said sir.

Hello and welcome to UHH. With regard to your issue with the fall colors and your camera, a photo would be useful in order to help.

Regarding the noise surrounding your question (snarky comments and the ensuing responses), I suggest ingnoring them and focusing in on the replies that address the original question. UHH is a great site with a plethora of fantastic people. A lot to be learned here.

I'm pretty sure that running it will void any Canon Warranties. Something to think about.

I agree and have read several horrror stories about ML. I like the features and they work for those that run the software, excellent. In my estimation, camera bodies are too expensive these days to risk it.
According to Canon Professional Services, ML will void Canon’s warranties.

Wow, your camera did a nice job in monochrome. Still, it is your eye and creative choices that made it great.

Bob, I am a neurologist and I see a large amount of PD patients with the majority continuing to be functional. Here are a few things: have your neurologist start Azilect (rasagiline) which MAY have some positive effects on delaying the progress (may because this was not FDA approved as an indication). Carbidopa/levodpa also known as Sinemet is the standard treatment but this is mainly to help you "move" only if you are very slow to move. I don't like to start it early especially if there is no indication for it. There are several options for tremor but as I am sure you know, the tremor is mostly resting and improves with action. I am sure your neurologist would talk to you about options to help with the tremor if it really causes problems. Most important: exercise like there is no end, have a positive attitude and keep on going. You CAN NOT give up photography, there are many solutions to problems but giving up something you like is not one of them. The exercise is either cardiac or resistance with weights and of course, better yet both. Tai-Chi is wonderful to help with balance.

Vermis, what a brilliant answer, especially sharing your expertise and emphasis on not giving up photography. Even though I do not have PD, I am thankful we have people like yourself, so willing to give of themselves.

Bob, keep on going and doing what you love. As you can see, there are options available for you to investigate with your neurologist. Take it from a Marine, there is no surrender when surrounded, simply charge in another direction. As to practical matters, if it should come to pass that tremors affect your photography, a tripod and electronic cable release will help immensely. Stay strong, get out there and photograph!

Nice work. IAre these images from film or digital? I am going to have to get up there to see what I can see, and photograph it. I have always loved trees and their root systems, when visible like this. I am going stir crazy in Minneapolis. I need a road trip.

I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive hand-held light meter, primarily for use with my old film cameras. Any suggestions?

Hi John, the bases are well covered here regarding light meters. I have the following light meters; the Gossen Luna Pro, a Gossen SBC, and my trusty Sekonic L758-DR, bloody expensive light meter.

I suggest and use the Gossen Luna Pro for film photography for the nostalgic feel of it. There is a spot metering attachment one can purchase used as well. I measure all my meters against the Sekonic 758-DR and they are spot on. The Gossen Luna-Pro F operates with a nine volt battery, so that is not an issue. The Luna-Pro also offers a wealth of visual information, including a zone system placement on the dial for those that use the zone system. The Luna-Pro F is a beautifully designed meter, useful and reliable. I have had mine since the latter 1980s.

Oh, I agree. But the more people go online for content and quit subscribing to printed publications, the fewer incentives publishers have to run the press. Ad sales dwindle, and profitability evaporates. Along the way, staff cuts and page count reductions and the use of cheaper paper all accelerate magazines’ demise by making them less appealing.

Oh, and photography isn’t the popular hobby in the same way it once was. Smartphones have replaced casual use of SLRs and dSLRs and point and shoot cameras.

As pointed out earlier, there are still a few good magazines around. Enjoy while you can...

Bill, I agree with you. I do both, spending more than a fair amount of time online regarding periodicals and such. The times, they are a changing and we have to roll with it as we always do.

It is a shame the way smartphones have changed the dynamic of photography. Of late, I find myself wanting to use my film cameras more than my digital cameras and with that, am willing to absorb the cost of doing so. I would really love to get my hands on a 4x5 view camera to learn that as well. I do support and love seeing people getting out there and using whatever they have to take images. At the least, people are still interested in taking images. We are entering a very interesting and exciting time for digital imaging, whether we like it or not is a different matter, yet, here we are. Hold on to our collective hats, folks.
