I've lived in Washington State all my life (which is a long time). I grew up mostly in Seattle. I live south of Seattle now. Closest to me is what we used to call the "Nisqually Wildlife Refuge" and now called the "Billy Frank Jr. National Wildlife Refuge".

I might be able to help if you define "Seattle area", what kind of wildlife you are looking for, your physical capabilities, the gear you have, what you have for transportation and how far you can travel from Seattle.

Thanks for your reply. Right now I only know that I will arrive at SEA on May 18th and will stay there until May 31st. I have not made any living arrangements yet, so not yet sure, where exactly I will end up staying.
I will have my own car so basically can go anywhere, but since my family will be there, too, I, I will limit myself to around 2 hours of driving one way.
For that same reason (family with me) actual photo shootings will be limited to a couple of hours. During that time I have no issues walking a lot (uphill, downhill, whatever) and carrying a ton of gear while I do so.
Speaking of gear, I will have my Z9 and lenses covering anything from 24 - 850mm.

Any tips are greatly appreciated (I will reply again, once I know where I'll be staying)

Hello

the title basically says it all: I will be in the Seattle area in May; any advice on good spots for wildlife photography are highly appreciated.

Thanks, everyone

Something I usually do forget: Change the date in your copyright info in ALL of your cameras! I did two of them yesterday. I'll do the other two tomorrow. Usually I forget until I have the first set up in LR and have to take the time to change it! Granted, it's easy but it's one more step and time we don't have to spend.

I have a recurring ("every Jan 01") entry in my calendar to make sure I do not forget

Nikon don't have a date, just the artist and copyright owners name...

you can put whatever you want into the "copyright notice" box, e.g. "copyright John Doe 2024, all rights reserved"

Thanks for the history lesson and the photos Mark. I assume that you will stay in the area a bit longer? In that case I suggest visiting Siena and Volterra, instead of Pisa, which - IMHO - doesn't have much to offer apart from the Leaning Tower.
In any case, enjoy your time.

Has anyone else noticed a significant drop in participation on this forum since they stopped the Daily Digest? I wish they would bring it back.

I get the digest every day!?

Hi everybody

It appears that most street photography is b/w. Is there a "good" reason for that or did someone at some point start in b/w and everybody else just tagged along?

I was recently diagnosed via biopsy with basal cell skin cancer between my nose and my camera eye (left). I had an MRI yesterday and will get the result (probably) on Tuesday when I see the dermatologist who will do Mohs surgery, tentatively scheduled for early next month. If the worst scenario occurs, how will I continue taking pictures? I tried to look through my right eye as an experiment and it just seemed too weird.

First of all: all the best for your upcoming surgery and recovery. I am left-eye-dominant and looked through the viewfinder with my left eye forever. Eventually I learned that this meant that I was covering a lot of my camera's buttons with the right side of my face, so I switched to my right eye. Took me a few shootings of reminding myself not to use the left eye, but then using the right eye became 2nd nature.

Adobe is forcing a new catalog update. Does anyone know if it is working smoothly. Are there likely to be problems? I do not have time to fix it now, if the download goes wrong. Anyone know what to expect?

nothing new here - this seems to be standard with every major version update. I have so far updated two catalogs w/out issues.
You can store the updated catalog under a new name which leaves the version 12 catalog untouched, so you can try again if anything goes wrong.

I did this about 2 years ago and I know only what I know about computers - if that makes any sense. I found very detailed directions on The Lightroom Queen. The instructions even gave details on how to back up everything before you start. I suggest you go to her site and search for the transfer instructions. Took all the stress out of the project and it worked perfectly! Good luck! BTW I love the MacBook Pro for my photography.

+1 on The Lightroom Queen; great resource

A 5TB disk on Windows is most likely formatted w/Windows' NTFS file system, which macOS can read but not write too. Paragon NTFS is a software that enables a Mac to also write NTFS formatted disks. At USD 20 this is a cheap and quick way to continue using that disk w/out changing anythig.

Another option would be to buy another disk for your photos, once you have transferred everything to that new disk, re-format the old one for use with a Mac and use it for backups.

Outside of the one Nikon EN-EL 15 that came with the camera I only used 3rd battery batteries (both EN-EL 15 and 18) with my D850 and battery grip and never had any issues.

When switching to a Z9 I found that none of my aftermarket EN-EL 18s worked. At that point I decided to "go legit" and have only purchased original Nikon batteries since. Fortunately, I don't really need a ton of batteries, therefore the additional cost of original batteries isn't too bad.

Hi MosheR

In this day and age where even the most innocent comment can quickly turn one into a target for all sorts of verbal abuse, I applaud your courage to post this.

Having said that I do not at all share your sentiment / concern. Between the thousands of members (I assume) of these forums you will find all kinds of reasons for why we take photos and approaches to how we do it.

I take photos as a hobby (and as an "excuse" to spend time in nature ). Fortunately I can afford to spend some serious money on this hobby, therefore my equipment is way more advanced than my skills as a photographer. I sometimes post or comment here, but - as far as I remember - have never posted even a single photo I have taken on this site.

Why does any of that bother you? (honest question!)
Me not posting my photos does not prevent you from posting yours. My interest in the technical aspect of modern photography does not prevent you from focusing on the artistic aspect.
If there's a "GAS topic" you don't care about - simply don't read it.

Go ahead and enjoy photography your way - but allow everyone else to enjoy it their way, too.

You may wish to edit your title and opening. It is not aftermarket batteries but rather chargers that are your concern. Correct?

Actually, the battery OP was referring to can be charged directly w/only a USB-C cable, no separate charger required
