Who remembers BURMA SHAVE (GREAT reminder of the past)?

I'm sure that Burma Shave actually saved some lives. People laughed and then were more careful! It was a REAL "service" to America, even though it was an advertisement and it was one of the RARE "really useful" ones!

A man, a miss,
A car a curve.
He kissed the miss,
And missed the curve. Burma Shave

DON'T STICK YOUR ELBOW
OUT SO FAR
IT MAY GO HOME
IN ANOTHER CAR. Burma Shave

Oh yes I remember those signs and as a matter of fact I have a booklet with lots of the sayings in there although it's pack and I don't know which box but it's in there somewhere. If I can find it I'll share some of them with you.
Thanks for the memory, David

This is the side of the home not seen in the other picture. The illusions continue. Draw a straight line from top to bottom that bisects that window at the bottom left ....that a completely flat surface. Draw another straight line that runs left to right and and that bisects that window at the top right of the picture. That's a flat, continuous surface the whole way.

I have idea why the overhang is there. Apparently the wood planking on the overhang didn't provide for relief from the rain, or light, and he settled on another solution. There is a small window under the overhang. There's a very small room that I could see, with only a commode in evidence.

Oh yes I do remember those S & H Green Stamps and we use to collect them every time we went to the store. I also remember going to the Spur station and getting some glass wear every time we would purchase gas. That has been a while back. Oh yeah I did like your shot and thanks for showing it to us.

My Dad and I watched the fights on TV every Friday night. Our TV was a Magnavox, 10 inch screen with one of those old magnifying screens on a stand. Unless you were seated directly behind, the image was always distorted. Nevertheless, every Friday night we were glued to the TV. The link below is for the Heavyweight Championship in Philadelphia in 1952. My Dad suddenly passed away in Jan. 53', at age 41. So, this is a fond memory for me.

If you are old enough, it may be a fond memory for you too.

Yes I really did enjoy that and I believe he stayed champ until he retired undefeated. We got our first TV in 1951 and I think it may have been an 11 inch screen but what I remember most of all during those days was Kate Smith singing God Bless America. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. This home was a one-time construction project. I was told by some local folks that the paved road was not there when the home was built. I'm going to post a shot of the entire home as another member has stated an interest in seeing it.

Tom

Thanks for the update Tom and I look forward to seeing the complete photo. I photographed an old home several years ago and wanted to do a completer shoot on it but as I arrived I saw an empty lot so I was a little late for that one. At one time it must have been a beautiful old place with a very long wrap around front porch. It was in the town area with other newer homes all around so I guess the neighbors may have wanted it down. It would have been very expensive to restore it to it's original condition.
Thanks, David

Map of Lake Como.

Thanks for sharing as they did bring back some wonderful memories. I was there several years ago and the main reason I wanted to go there was because I had been a rider of a Moto Guzzi motor cycle from 1973 until 2013 and that is where the factory was located. I wasn't allowed to view any part of the factory and was only able to visit the museum. It's a beautiful area and maybe one of these days I'll go back.

I promise you that everything you see here, excepting the recessed door, is on the exact same, perfectly flat plane.

Yes it is an interesting design and it looks to me like it could have been two different constructions.

Yes that is a big one and it looks like a 38 wheel truck and trailer to me. I'm not sure I'd want to be around him on the road. Nice set and thanks for sharing.

I have a reason for doing this, and that reason will so be revealed.

Do this without looking at anyone else's choices. Pick a random color and a number between 1 - 100, and post it below.

8 and blue. I guess I'll have to wait and see what this is all about.

A photography friend of mine made these for me since I'm not much with a computer except editing.

Which do you like?

I prefer number 3 because it just has a cleaner appearance but I would darken up the name to make it stand out more.
Just one mans opinion, David

The book also arrived today and I thank you too. Now all I need is to have the surgery on my eyes on the 12th and I'll be able to read again.
Thank You, David

An interesting documentary well worth the watch,....IMHO,.....follows the lesser known origins and history of a down south music recording studio "Fame" located at a place with humble beginnings that soon became a sought out recording destination by a vast variety of recording artists who's names you will recognize.
Fame recording studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama a destination with a now rich history of music making magic ,...from Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin thru The Rolling Stones and many others.
This documentaries ending 10 minutes culminates with a stunning performance by Alicia Keys impressive studio recording performance of "Pressing On",.....by itself more than worth the watch!!!!,....melding into "Sweet Home Alabama" by American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I still continue to watch this well done documentary for it's great presentation.
