is that a fancy word for "Red"?

Woo Hoooo!
Man if that was my shot, I sure wouldn't be bit....er complaining about it!!
beautiful work, Keith.
only the usual superb photos of BIFs.
Congrats.
Truly amazing shots.
Likely the best shot of the RH Woodpecker I have seen.
Beautiful photo. A hundred years ago I stood on that dock and looked into the gin clear water and saw a couple hundred starfish all grouped together. Not sure what amazed me the most was all the starfish or the clearness of the water.
well done, I like that !

as a kid I had a battery operated model of the '58 Skyliner, where the trunk automatically opened up at the push of a button, and the hard top roof disappeared in to it.
Looking at that heavy line around the roof, I'm thinking this the full size version of that.

Definitely a cool illusion!
It's just as baffling when you are standing there looking at it. If someone didn't point it out to you, no one would believe the room is only half as tall as it appears.
thanks for commenting.

I'm going to keep an eye out for your work!
ambush photography.
It certainly works well for you!
great shot.
"Sometimes breathtaking"
Once in a while I will open somebody's entry, and without thinking just immediately say "Oh !".
Thanks for one of those.
all great, but I'm really fond of the Blue Jay.

Very interesting post, Fred! It's a good thing that you were using the D850, I think! What ISO did you use? Were you able to take test shots?
Keith, it was so dark in the viewing area I was unable to even see the damned camera much less make ISO adjustments! Didn't know what I had until I got home, and was very happily surprised. ISO was on auto thank goodness. Some shots were agonizingly slow, some were fairly quick - all depending on how strong and how long the light flashes were. But at least I was smart enough to leave behind our favorite (but slow) 200-500. As you know the D850 has a pretty good rep for low light situations, and this was my first real workout with it in that mode.
As for "test shots", you are looking at them (they all were!)
I just propped my elbows on the guard railing and kept on shooting (its not like I was spending money on film or anything). If that ain't the definition of point & shoot, I don't know what is. Got lucky.
good to hear from you,
