Welcome to the UHH. I'm sure you will receive tips daily that will help improve your photography. I know I do. Like David said that is a great image of the beautiful California Coast. We California folks have so many photo ops no matter where we in in this great state.

I look forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks Zeek. I have tons of photos! The Central Coast is amazing. Here's an amazing sunset from Paradise.

Ok thanks, I was hoping to avoid having to download the photos to find out what the properties were.

Thanks David. I'm still learning but lots of ops for sure. I'm slowly taking the settings of auto. LOL Here's a shot I got the other night.

I agree the blurry shots are due to your camera focusing on objects behind the subject you want. Before shooting the photo, you need to make sure your camera has the focal points on the subject you want. Otherwise, you may do better to manually focus, or figure out how to set the focal points to where you want them.

I do agree the photo was much sharper, but that image was not the problem, the second one you posted was a good example of the problem you are experiencing and yes, that is your camera's focal points.

What type of camera are you using?

Hi there. I like your photo as it is a beautiful setting. I hope you don't mind but I also re-edited your photo using Photoshop Elements 9. First off I recropped to put it into the rules of thirds. Since you had more water and more emphasis on the reflection and the mist on the water, I cropped one thirds trees to two-thirds water. I then straightened it. Next, I warmed up the ambient light temperature because I the photo to me portrays the warm morning sunrise showing the mist on the water. Then I increased the color saturation to really make the photo pop. I hope you like it.

Wow lots of great shots. I was looking up how to shoot lightning shots and though I don't see much lightning in my area, I was also thinking the same would apply since we must remember that our camera is a recorder of light. I love all the color and fullness from the shots that were taken with a long exposure on a tripod. It appears that getting good firework shots is about the same as getting good lightning shots and that is just open up the shutter and let the light paint the picture. LOL

It really doesn't look that blurry other than where the little guy moved his hand. Might try a faster shutter speed. What is the maximum aperture on the lens?

Hi, Dianne

I just learned something. The camera and setting information is available in the picture file directly: jpeg properties/details. You don't need camera software to see it.

The Durango/Silverton train was with a Panasonic DMC-FZ7 at f/5.6, 1/160 s, equivalent 35mm focal length of 432. (Guess I wasn't that close!)

Larry Leach

Yes, most cameras save this information as part of the file. It's pretty easy to find the photo properties of your own photo. However, when uploaded online, it's not so easy to find that information, that's why I think it would be great to know that information just by looking at the photo.

Thanks for sharing the photo info. I love the train photos!

Sorry you had so many blurry shots. It happens. Here are a few suggestions: Make sure your lens is clean, use a tripod, try a faster shutter speed/larger aperture if low light and have an image stabilizer lens.

Good luck,

Dianne

What makes you feel that the Canon has better image quality?

The comparison I posted claims contrary. It isn't clear to me what they use for that claim because they do note that the Canon has more megapixals. Maybe it is a combination of the noise, color, and dynamic range?

I expect for me how I use the camera would be far more important than the technical differences between the cameras themselves. A more useful test would put both cameras in the hands of several randomly selected people each and evaluate how they are doing after say one month and three. That would encompass such things as how intuitive are the controls.

The comments on the comparison site get interesting. As with computers those who bought a particular option are staunch supporters of its superiority.

It is difficult to make multi attribute selections. Most people do better deciding on one thing that matters most to them and choosing on that basis. It could be the color, feel, or look of the thing, or even an affection for the brand name, instead of all those technical items. It is clear in this case that, as several have noted, both are highly capable of excellent performance.

Larry Leach

I would love for when people post photos, that they also post what camera/lens/f-stop, etc the photo was shot in. I think we might be able to get a better idea of the type of captures each camera/lens can take. Of course some of it would also depend on the talents of the photographer as well.

Hi, my name is Dianne and I'm new to the forum. I love photography and am learning as much as I can. I've been shooting with a DSLR for about 6 or 7 years now starting with a Canon Rebel XT. I recently upgraded to a Canon 60D and I love it. I'm also getting ready to upgrade to an L series Telephoto lens.

I shoot mainly show dogs, but love seascapes and landscapes.

I look forward to reading more about what everyone has to offer on here!

Thanks!
