Here are a few of mine.
We would love to see yours.
I find fireworks very challenging as they come and go so quickly.
Better have the camera set and ready.
These are hand held. I don't think you could use a tripod as its difficult to know where in the sky they will light up.

Here's my first attempt from last 4th July
What settings did you use to get the fireworks hand held?
Fantastic. I'm mostley studio guy with green screen. Your work is great backround.

I used auto, however 98% of the time I shoot manual. Manual does not work for me with fireworks because there is not time from burst, to full bloom, to its gone, to get exposure and focus set, press the shutter and get the shot.
That's the way I do it, however I am sure there are a variety of techniques.

Wow! that's great. Now why didn't I think of that? Now I am going to see what kind of mess I can make trying it.
Funny this post came up today. My redneck neighbors set fireworks off for two hours last night. They set them off for St. Patty's day too. Ugh! However, I took these over Hilton Head Island this past 4th. These were handheld.

Yup...fireworks ARE challenging. The following photos were taken with my little Nikon P90 on a tripod in "fireworks" mode (yes, there is one). Settings are ISO 64, f/8, 4 sec exposure. Cropped in PS. One converted to b/w just for giggles. Looking forward to trying this with the new Nikon D3100.

Now that's what I call real extravaganza of a fireworks show. However that's what I would expect from a casino event. It's great!
Well done.

My camera (Sony HX1) also has fireworks mode and that's the "auto mode" that I was referring to.
I can imagine you are excited about your soon to be new camera. Also sounds like a new learning curve to work on.

Great shots!
And just think how boring life would be without your redneck neighbors.
