I have a Canon 5D Mark ii with the 24-105L lens and wonder if it makes sense to get a 2X extender for my trip to Spain. I also have an older Canon 75-300 lens but don't want to carry both. Concerned about quality with the extender and also whether a good one exists that fits my camera. (Thanks, Canon...) Also considered a used Canon 55-200, but Rockwell said that my camera couldn't handle the color problems.
Appreciate your help and snark,
Bill from Somerville MA (long time lurker)

I carried my 24-105 f/4 and my 70-200 f/2.8 on vacation. My wife asked me to travel light. So I started to take only the 24-105. Not only was she happy, but I enjoyed the actual vacation more. Time w/family instead of just looking for another photo.

When "Digital" first became available, many established professionals said it was only a novelty and wouldn't last.

I value being the same always. So I will continue to like and use what I liked and what I used unless I am forced to change like there is no more old stuff they all broken. My dad bought a Marelli fan when I was born 69 years ago and it's still working and I value that.

My last DSLR was a Canon 5Dmklll. In
In 2018 I switched to a mirrorless camera Only because I had developed a serious chronic illness. I could no longer handle a DSLR. I needed smaller and lighter. My issues were bad enough that I had to stop my business. The good news is that switching to a lighter camera allows me to continue (in a modified way) my love for photography, which goes back to 1981. Some of the features of a mirrorless camera help me and other features I really don't need but are nice to have.

Use what you are comfortable with. Every camera has limitations. The important thing is to know how to work around any limitations you feel your camera of choice has. In some cases you might need more post editing Who cares, Just enjoy the craft.

In 2018, I switched from a Canon 5Dmklll to a Fujifilm X-T3. No regrets. By making the switch, I can now do basic editing before I take the shot. This means more time behind the camera and lot less time in front of a monitor
Yes, I went from FF to APS-C!) New sensors are incredible.
(I did extensive, hands on research of many cameras before making my choice.)

I didn't go to extremes, though. I have a 1TB M.2 drive for C, and a 4TB SSD for D.

It feels like I just built this desktop, but that was in 2016, and I still consider it a "Good" computer.

I'm sorry to see disks going out of use because I still use CDs and DVDs, and whenever possible, I have two drives in my desktop. Unfortunately, this Dell I bought a few years ago (XPS30) cannot accept a drive. My son got an XPS40, and I was able to add two drives to that. When I want to use a disk with the Dell, I plug in an external drive. Now that I'm back to using Big Red, I have my two drives back. Two drives are perfect for making copies. I'm tempted to buy a couple of drives in case they are no longer available in the future.

How many of you have optical drives?

I had one on my old PC, which I replaces last month. I borrowed an external one and copied 28 CDs onto an external SSD. CDs don't last for ever and I had a few files that were corrupted (not bad, only 3 files from 28 CDs). Out of the options available, I feel that the SSD will outlast HHDs, CDs and DVDs.
A computer tech support person wanted to know how I got 12 years out of a desktop I told him that I bought a more powerful machine than I needed at the time and over the years, added more ram and replaced the graphics card twice. Reasons why I would never buy a machine with everything intergraded into the motherboard.

Please share which of the two images you select as being more effective in showing love between the subjects and what factors made you choose one over the other.

I like the crop in the monochrome image but not the white background. I would be interested in seeing the top image cropped like the lower one but with the original background (also in monochrome)

Posing is very difficult for many of us. After 40 years with a camera and a lot of practice and study, my poses still looked forced, hence, I don't do formal portraits

In 2918 the entire concept will be moot. We’ll be bio mechanical beings with micro-telephoto eyesight capable of zooming from seeing details of bacteria to identifying faces on mars and we’ll be capable of projecting those holographic images out our anuses.

You lost me. What's the point to this post? More people use Sony??

Who cares (other than the camera equipment companies and others affiliated with the industry)? The herd mentality found on this site is generally more misleading than helpful and should be taken with a grain (or is it noise) of salt. Conventional wisdom usually isn't.
