My mother passed away about 3 1/2 months ago and part of dealing with her belongings was what to do with all the photographs she saved. I have decided to scan each one and save them digitally for my kids to have. I'm considering putting together a book to give to each of my kids of their ancestors. This is a typical composite photo page of my mother's father. I'm thinking I could create a page for each of my family members and combine all of them into one book. I like the nostalgic feel to this page of my grandfather.

I need your opinions! I'm turning 70, and am torn on my present... to myself. L-bracket or carbon fiber tripod? I shoot mostly landscapes with my OLY M5 II. I currently use a MeFoto tripod that folds up to easily fits into carry on, which is important to me. It's a nice weight but needs to be tightened frequently, which is a pain, especially when I'm on a photowalk and didn't bring the case and the tools to tighten it. Hence, tripod GAS. BUT, an L bracket would be great to have in the field because once the tripod is adjusted, leveled, etc. I could change the orientation without having to mess with the tripod.

I have little choice on the bracket, Oly or RRS, because of the location of the battery door. I'm looking at the Manfrotto BeFree Carbon fiber, Srui travel CF, and a similar Oben, in case anyone wants to weigh in before I do some more searching here. :oD

A MISSING WIFE
Those Newfies (folks fromNewfoundland) are a lot smarter than we give them credit for...I think!

The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking accident, a Twillingate, Newfoundland man answered his door to find two grim-faced RCMP officers.

"We're sorry Mr. Flynn, but we have some information about your wife," said one of the officers.

"Tell me! Did you find her?!" Cedric Flynn asked.

The troopers looked at each other. One said, "We have some bad news, some good news, and some really great news. Which would you like to hear first?"

Fearing the worst, Mr. Flynn said, "Give me the bad news first." The RCMP officer said, "I'm sorry to tell you, sir, but this morning we found your wife's body in the bay."

"Lord sufferin' Jesus!" exclaimed Flynn. Swallowing hard, he asked, "What could possibly be the good news?" The officer continued, "When we pulled her up, she had 12 of the best looking Atlantic lobsters that you have ever seen clinging to her. Haven't seen lobsters like that since the 1960's, and we feel you are entitled to a share in the catch."

Stunned, Mr. Flynn demanded, "If that's the good news, then what's the great news?"

The officer replied, "We're gonna pull her up again tomorrow."

Rankings like this are usually pretty moronic. The first thing you have to ask is what "qualities" they considered important. Obviously people still flock to California, so the good qualities must still be fairly balanced against the bad qualities.

Having a close relative who has lived there - and who has recently moved BACK there, I can say that she likes many of the good qualities: public t***sportation that means you do not have to own a car. Great weather. Near the ocean, and near spectacular mountains. Ability to get farm-fresh produce most of the year. A state that actually cares about the environment. A state that is welcoming to minorities of all types. She doesn't smoke marijuana, but there is that! She is willing to accept the higher crime and the god-awful expensive cost of living to live some place she loves.
