Sorry, didn't see title on topic page. Doh???
From where were these beautiful birds? Love the deep purple.
Most quilt stores carry fabric for photo printing. The sales people can best answer how best to wash the material.

Your shutter speed is too slow on all of them. The dove is 1/125th and should be at least 1/400th. You could open up the aperture to wide open, use ISO 400 and increase shutter speed. Put the camera in AI Servo focus and single point focusing. Also, use Multi-shot mode and shoot as fast as the camera can shoot. 3fps??? I'm not sure.
The hummingbird shots, same thing. You need a shutter speed of at least 1/1000th to stop the wings. Use similar setting for these except a faster shutter speed and you'll get much sharper images with good detail.

Thank you so much for your advice. I am working on improving the clarity of my hummers and I found your suggestions just the motivation I needed to improve.
New and improved bird photo
jeep daddy, If you would have given me this advice six months ago, wouldn't have understood what you were talking about. So, now I have learned lots more about how to use my equipment and am anxious to follow your advice. I have used an ISO of 100 or 200 with aperture priority. I will work with the shutter speed. Thank you so much for your specific suggestions.

Thanks Marquis. I am studying with plenty of shooting. Appreciate the encouragement.
I am trying to improve my bird photos for clarity. Here are a few.
A treat to see the nest of three babies up close.
Don't have advice about lightening your load, but I enjoyed your story. I used to live fairly near that the Brazos Bend Park and you brought back a great memory. As far as missing a great photo op, there's always something going on with those crazy gators! Hope you will return soon!
I have rarely seen such clear, detailed photos of hummers, and that includes in Audubon books. Wow! Thanks for the fabulous post, Beercat.
Great tip with a great shot. House sparrows have been a constant part of my backyard recently.
Some F's I found in my alphabet soup.

Okay, I am not a competitive person, but I do want to learn from others under the same constraints. No matter the rules, it is still the individual's right to participate or not. If you are too busy, skip the week you cannot participate. Time is a constraint we all deal with, and if you are a professional, I am sure you have a timeline on your projects for your clients. You should be used to it. Let's get serious. I don't usually have attitude in a discourse, however, the sarcasm and rudeness here by a few is inappropriate. Just express your opinions without belittling or questioning others about their point of you. Maybe what I just said should be a rule. lol
