I favor Lightroom and have used it for a number of years. In both the Library mode (managing photos) and Develop mode (editing) the workflow is fairly intuitive for all the basics, but also includes many advanced features. I use Lightroom and Photoshop thru one of Adobe’s photography plans....about $10/month. This option gives you “pro level” editing of RAW files without a big cash outlay, and you can cancel when you desire.

What camera and lens did you use for these shots?

Mojave is a relatively new OS, and it does indeed have some bugs....they all do for a while. My problem with Mojave not properly recognizing previously exFAT formatted drives, as Sierra did, is a genuine problem. But I’m sure Apple will eventually fix it (without ever admitting it, of course). So until then we use a work around. Good luck to all.

I have also had problems with Mojave that Apple techs could not explain. I have two external drives both formatted to exFAT so I can use them with both my iMAC and Windows computers. This worked fine with Sierra, but with Mojave I cannot save to them with the iMAC. The MAC recognizes them only as Windows formatted drives (not exFAT as formatted). This seems like a bug in Mojave. It has been a big chore to move files around and save them to MAC formatted drives, so I can get operational again. If anyone has experience with Mojave and the exFAT disk format, I’d like to hear about it. Thanks.

I simply have much better quality lenses for the D500 than the Sony, hence generally better IQ. I thought the 50mm f1.8 might be good for low light situations. Your suggestion about a wide angle lens is a good one. I do have a 16-35mm f4 (FX). Maybe that would be a better choice for travel in Europe than the 50mm, although it is much larger than the 50mm. Thanks for the input.

I will be doing a similar cruise in Europe later this summer. I plan to take a Nikon D500 (crop sensor camera) , a 28-300mm lens and a 50mm, f1.8 (light weight and fast). For backup, I’m taking a mirror less Sony 6000. The Sony camera is very lightweight and good for walk around street photography, although somewhat less image quality than the Nikon. For this kind of trip I think it’s important to
minimize the weight and the need for lens changes.

As a long time resident of San Diego, I would agree....lots of photo ops. Not too much in Orange County, except coastal areas.

I lived many years in So Cal, and agree with suggestions that have been made. If you don’t have time for the San Diego area, take a coastal route from Escondido back to Torrance for many scenic areas. For flowers check what is blooming at the Carlsbad flower fields. The San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park is in Escondido....a great place for animal shots. Wine Country north of Escondido is great in Spring. Have fun!

Agree! You need FX equivalent of 75mm or similar for portraits to avoid getting too close to subject. 1.8 is ok, better bokeh with 1.4, but expensive.

I own a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 and find images to be very sharp. I’ve heard other brands of this lens are not as sharp. The Nikon is an expensive lens, but worth it in my opinion when sharp details are important.

I think your wide angle image looks fine, but you can get the “panoramic “ look with a more closeup view of details by taking a series of overlapping “zoomed” shots and stitching them together to create a wide angle view. You must use a well leveled tripod for this technique. Most of the better photo editors will do the stitching quite well. I have used Lightroom and Photoshop Elements for this.
