computing and recording the tax is only the beginning! The next step is collecting and lastly PAYING it! It is not only a state tax, but many municipal taxes at various rates. We know that the consumer will be paying the TAX. Who do we think will pay the ADMINISTRATION?

Very nice harbor morning in Australia! Memories of Summer sure feels warm--a trawler, a sailboat (the guy needs a bottom scrub) light breeze. It is inspiration especially here in SLC with 3 to 4 feet of new powder in the Wasatch Mts and still snowing! Bring on Spring!

I bet you were amazed!!! I have been there several times since 2006. Was trying to do business there but they are still a little slow in government circles. My lawyer in HCM was cop and educated in UC Davis. Another friend was from Ca Mau. Her dad was SVN naval captain so went thru re-education--not good but he now lives in Sacramento. My friend's family did not get to US embassy in time to evacuate so she has many escape attempt stories. She finally got to NYC in 2005. But her mom made the most of it and now her brothers run the largest building supply company in the delta which she started. My friend speculated on about 3 or 4 acres on Phu Quoc (north side facing Cambodia) beach front about 10 years ago...she is back in California.

i agree, nice photo and warm narrative. If you have the time and inclination i think you deserve to return! Government needs a little more maturing, but the people--still so great!! Smart, ambitious, hard working and looking to the future. For a quick study--google search PhuQuoc Marriott!

the drive is long and slow. Can be frustrating if you are behind a diesel burning truck in a no passing zone. But depending on you watercraft option, it is still faster trip. It is a fun sailboat race from Miami to KW, usually good fair winds, but still about 125 nm. What to see?? Well LOTS! It is an eclectic collection of people--mostly Americans but...young, old, all races, physically fit and physically challenged, hippies (remember them? they kept going south to stay warm and when they got to Key West ran out of land), gay, military (US Navy Air Station and Coast Guard)---but all are friendly and one can spend a fruitful afternoon with anyone just exchanging life stories! Blue Heaven is a very good choice for dinner and of course key lime pie is everywhere!

You ask a good question. Remember like book stores there are definitely local quality merchants. The big ones are good, but not necessarily a resource if you shop online. If you have a local, give them a chance. Many local shops can be honest, reliable and a valuable resource. Use your judgement. Even do a test. Go in looking for something small, start a conversation and engage. If they make you comfortable you may have an ace. If not, evaluate, are they just real busy or is it attitude. It may turn out to be a fine experience. My example is a small corner family store on long island called L&L Camera. Always ready to give time and info. Make the shopping fun. If you get to NYC go to B&H, it is like going to a museum!! So much interesting stuff!

Gene makes gives a good reference to the Quill Case relating to the Commerce Clause of the constitution. Quill is stall good law and sets out the nexus requirement allowing a state to impose local taxes on interstate commerce. The focus of the issue has been imposing a tax burden on the out of state retailer. Most states this burden is an obligation to collect and remit the sales tax in the customer's state. Curious here, B&H is not consenting to nexus requirement or it would have collected the tax. So why would B&H go to an extent of setting up a tracking and reporting system without a tax obligation???
