A.T. I didn't say that the Z8 made me a better photographer. What it does, it makes it easier for me to get the pictures I want. I still keep the 2 cameras because I don't want to have to change lenses in the field and at a moment's notice. If I am shooting wildlife with a 300 or a 500 mm lens and I see a beautiful landscape, all I need to do is switch cameras in an instant, take the landscape picture and be back to the wildlife in no time.
Topic update nine months later.
A couple of months ago I received an email from Nikon offering a discount on the purchase of a new Z8 plus a trade in. I went for it, and I received $850 for the D500, which I applied to the Z8 purchase.
The D500 had close to 100,000 clicks if not more and had traveled with me to every continent. I thought it was a great deal and now the Z8 is my primary camera and the D850 is the secondary one for panoramas, landscapes and such.
I am still learning to use the Z8 but it is definitely superior to the D cameras in practically every sense.
You don't need to buy a new reader. Simply connect your camera directly to the computer with the USB cable provided with the camera and then simply transfer the pictures to your computer. i am doing that with my Z8 and it works very well.
Adobe support is great. A few weeks ago I had an issue with Lightroom and someone in India logged into my PC to evaluate the issue and diagnose the problem. I received an email a couple of days later with instructions on what to do to resolve the issue and he even followed up with 2 more emails later on to make sure everything was working as expected. Great service!
I have set up hierarchies for a lot of the categories, however, there are many more that don't quite fit into anything. My main beef is having to retype many of the words already in the list. That is still easier than scrolling down the list every time.
Hi fredpnm, I have the auto-complete checked in preferences and the recent keywords for the keyword set. However, I do not have an option for the keyword suggestions. The arrow point only closes the window, no dropdown menu.
I do not have the automatically write changes into XMP checked. I used to but the Adobe tech unchecked it when trying to get this fixed. It made no difference.
Agree. I've had 2 conference calls with the Adobe team in India and they have not been able to figure it out. I am expecting another call today.
I just hope that another fellow UHH has had similar issues and knows the solution.

I have 3 issues with the keywords in lightroom classic.
The first is with the auto complete. It used to be that when you start typing a keyword, it would auto complete it if it was already in your keyword list. Well, no more. I have consulted with Adobe and still no solution.
The second issue is about how the keywords are displayed in the keyword tags window. If I enter the name of a bird, Ie. pigeon, which is under the Bird keyword, which itself is under the Animal keyword, it will show up as "pigeon<bird<animal, bird<animal, animal". Instead of "Pigeon, Bird, Animal"
Last issue is when I export the pictures to an album or to One Drive, to send to family or friends, the keywords don't export.
Any advice from the UHH community will be greatly appreciated.

One more thing. All the copies will have a small white square in the right upper corner when you look at the grid view. Just select them all and delete.
I had the same issue. The culprit is lightroom in the cloud. If you back up your collections to lightroom, it, somehow, downloads the images again to your computer, therefore duplicating them. Either, do not create collections, or don't back them to the cloud and you'll be fine.

I am with you Curmudgeon, I have prints from the 70s, slides (about 20k) from the 80s and 90s and more than 170k digital pictures stored in hard drives and the cloud. I have not looked at the slides in years, but I hope, against all hope, that I will digitize them one day. The digital pictures keep going up all the time with my frequent travels and I only get rid of the really bad ones, almost duplicates, etc. Most of them I have never seen, but again, I hope to get to them one day.
