I refer people to flickr or some other site where they can do their own research. Look at the typical tourist images and then poke around in the exif data to look at corresponding lens lengths. I swear some of the folks just ask and have not made any attempt to figure it out on their own.

Responses such as this one is why I only read and don’t post questions. Most on here reply with a courteous answer but some seem to be elitist and prefer to give unnecessary snarky answers. One would think that people would want to help people who are trying to learn or just not reply at all.

Ok I see all the points made here many are valid. But from my own perspective for some place I have been to before I know what to take.If I travel but my own car I can take the proverbial kitchen sink, ie big huge roller bag and trough in a back pack for hikes. But with today’s airline restrictions getting worse, and the regional airport where I live no longer gets big jets but smaller and smaller commuter jets I can only take a few things. So in asking the group about a destination I have never been to before it is not to see how to use my equipment but like others have posted to ask what others have taken for the photo opportunities that here maybe. As an example say Alaska, or Africa those are very different that what and where I normally travel to. So would ask what others have taken and how you got it there. I know the first time I went to Alaska I was some what over packed but now that I have gone I can reduce my gear considerably. And reading what others have taken to Africa and how they got it there feel more comfortable in knowing what to take and now I feel I am prepared to go, which based on current world affairs i am thinking of sticking close to home for now. My second point is I thought this was a group where all could come to learn from others about photography, I did not know this was a group strictly devoted to full time professionals that a question of what kind of lens should I take to a rose garden would be looked upon in utter shock at the persons stupidity on not knowing to take a macro lens, oh the shock and horrid of that persons utter lack of knowledge on how to use their equipment. Sorry for the rant here at the end but that is my opinion of how some of the comments are coming across. Kind of pious.

Well said. Not all of us on UHH are professionals and are here to learn and enjoy the site. I am purely an amateur that just enjoys taking photos for my personal pleasure and have no desire to sell photos. Having said that, I do want to take good quality photos and now that I am retired, I have time to try to get better so I read the posts on UHH to try to improve my skills.

I have a badge for Tuesday practice day at the Masters golf tournament in a couple days. Wondering if any of you have any experience at Augusta. They allow cameras on practice days. Can I bring in two cameras? One zoom, and one more wide angle. Right now I could take a Sony a9 with 200-600 and a Canon R6 with 24-105. I could rent a Canon 100-400 and go with one body and two lenses. I could also pull out my 5D Mark iv body for the 24-105 for more megapixels for landscape shots.
Any advice is welcome. Kind of a bucket list item for me.

You are in for a treat. It is an absolutely gorgeous course. I was fortunate enough to get tickets one time about 15 years ago. The only equipment I had at the time was a Canon Rebel XTI with a 17-85 lens. I got some nice shots but sure wished a had a longer lens. ENJOY!!

I have a Canon 77D and have been thinking about purchasing the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. My question, would the lens produce sharp photos with my crop sensor camera or would it be better to stay with EF-S lenses? If so could someone recommend an EF-S lens that would be some what comparable in performance to the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. Thank you.

What are your thought on a Canon 17-85 USM 4-5.6 IS USM for a walk around lens for a Canon 77D?

They are not an authorized Canon dealer. Canon warranty does not apply on purchases from them.

Thanks to each of you for your replies and advice. I will most likely order the 80D.

I have a Rebel XTi and am thinking of upgrading and getting more into photography since retiring. I am looking at the Rebel T7i which would be a significant upgrade but still an entry level camera, and the Canon 80 D. I don’t have any thoughts of being a pro and mainly would be using the camera for vacation travels, family photos, and photos of landscapes and wildlife while hiking. Which of these would you recommend and is the 80D advanced enough to warrant the extra cost?
