I purchased one of these recently and this was the first photo shoot. None of these pictures were edited they were all shot in manual jpeg. The first picture was at night the shutter was set to 1/5th of a second which is unheard of when using handheld. The Nikon site says the camera can be dropped five stops and still be used handheld which I would agree. Another pic is a butterfly next is a B/W photo. The last photo shows the detail and color of the camera and lens. The Z6 shoots better movies and is 24MP where as the Z7 is a whooping 45MP which is ideal for landscape shots. I am very impressed with the camera it has met my expectations at this point.

My wife has a Samsung Galaxy 10. She has no photography skills as far as a DSLR or how any of the settings are used. We went on a trip a while ago and she took a photo of a waterfall and the quality was excellent it looked as good as the picture I took with a Canon D6 after using Lightroom. She is out of town now and sent me a picture of our daughter standing by a bright window in a dark room and it looked like a professional photographer took it. I do not think I could have done it any better. She just uses the default settings on the phone. I know if her photos were blown up they would not compare in detail as a full frame camera. But some of these cell phone now have 12MP's. I am hearing talk about cell phones getting better and better and have aperture and shutter settings as well as a decent zoom. Do any of you all have similar situations on this topic? I am also including a link about buying a travel camera and how to select one that works best for someone it covers cell phones as well. I found it quite informative. I am stating to wonder if I should just buy an expensive cell phone going forward and take pictures with that. Lord knows my neck would feel better.

Thank you for all your comments I have some extra pay from work coming and have decided to use this to pay down some credit cards instead of a new toy. I really think that miorrorless cameras will be the norm in 5 years or less so I think I will wait to see what Canon offers in the FF mirrorless cameras. I will probably sell all of my canon lenses and bodies to offset the price of the mirrorless lenses and camera. Sony seems to be the top dog in the mirroless market but both Canon and Nikon wait patiently to evaluate the the market before they rush out new technology. I think both of these companies will compete very well with the Sony line of new cameras and lenses. I do own a sony A6000 I know it is one of there low end products but I recently took some photos in a misty environment and the EVF worked but the picture was not displayed I have heard that Sony does not have the weather sealing stuff like other models. I know this will change with their higher end products.

I currently own a Canon 100 - 400MM L series lens the version 1 with the push pull zoom. I was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to the new model. I went to best buy to check it out and thought it would have an internal zoom like my 70 - 200 2.8 lens but was disappointed the it had the external zoom which my old lens has. I would like some insight to you guys and gals think it would be worth the extra money. I know it would be a better lens but not sure if I need to spend 1700 dollars for it. My gut would be to not upgrade the lens and wait to see what Canon will do with their mirrorless full frame models to be release next year.

I have it and it is OK for some things I really cannot find a preset built in that gives me what I want but it does a good job. I like Lightroom better the post processing does a better job IMOP

Ok thanks I have the version II

There are two versions of this lens. The first version has a plastic window for the footage scale. The II version has the footage scale around the focus ring. According to reviews, The version II is a bit better and preferred.

I picked one of these up at a pawn shop for 85 which included tax. The link is like the lens I have with the leather case. It is all metal and quite heavy seems to be decent quality and made in Japan. It is in excellent shape and all and has AF. It reminds me of my old Canon FL lenses from years gone by pretty basic looking. My question is have any of you all used this lens and if so what would be your comments about it. I have the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens which is a lot more expensive then the Tokina. I thought the Tokina would be a good lens to take where the area is rough such as hiking so if it gets damaged would not be a loss like the Canon. Any thoughts on this lens would be appreciated.

Try to remember to use Quote Reply when you reply to someone - that way it's clear who you are responding to.

I keep hearing about layering and masking quite a bit but have yet to use it or know what it does. I will have to start watching online LR videos on this subject. Thanks

Thank you for all of your replies good information. When I took this picture I was still new to the camera and was only shooting jpeg. I now use raw and jpeg for all of the pictures I take. I am also new to lightroom and have no idea how to use Photo Shop yet. All of this is so much different then my film days where the PP was done when the film was developed in the lab. I guess the one thing that is nice I can take a bunch of photos and pick the best one.
There is so much more to learn with the new technology and the the software and all.
