Tokina Lens 20-35MM

I picked one of these up at a pawn shop for 85 which included tax. The link is like the lens I have with the leather case. It is all metal and quite heavy seems to be decent quality and made in Japan. It is in excellent shape and all and has AF. It reminds me of my old Canon FL lenses from years gone by pretty basic looking. My question is have any of you all used this lens and if so what would be your comments about it. I have the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens which is a lot more expensive then the Tokina. I thought the Tokina would be a good lens to take where the area is rough such as hiking so if it gets damaged would not be a loss like the Canon. Any thoughts on this lens would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There are two versions of this lens. The first version has a plastic window for the footage scale. The II version has the footage scale around the focus ring. According to reviews, The version II is a bit better and preferred.

The Tokina lens is built to last. Well mad and from what I know the version you have is reasonably sharp.
Do your part and the lens will reward you.

Good philosophy.
I have an old 10D and a couple of very old and cheaply bought EF lenses that I use on the beach and at work on job sites where there is dust, sand and other things that I would rather not subject a more expensive and newer camera and lenses to. I have learned to clean the sensor and it isn't that hard.
