Based on my experience- unless you are a working pro, stay away from rechargeable batteries. They discharge when not in use. That's ok if you use and charge them every day. If you are like me now that I am retired, the camera sits on the shelf a lot of the time. Just when something exciting happens and I grab the camera for a fast pic, I want to know that the flash batteries are ready. AAs are cheap and Costco or Lowes, and they do not discharge when idle.

If you are going to print up to 5 by 7s or if you are going to only print 8 by 10s, I would look for a dye sub printer. They are a little more expensive but, and it's a big but for me; you can print once a month without wasting ink cleaning the print head. My DNP sits in the closet for months on end; but when I need prints, it is ready to go.

If you joint the Professional Photographers of America, they provide coverage if your wedding or other shoot goes bad. They will help you reshoot the event by covering travel, clothes cleaning etc

When checking for content, I don't scan. I spread the negs out on an old light table and take pictures of them with my digital camera. Much faster and simpler.

I'm retired now; but if I were to go back to real estate photography, the first purchase would be a drone. Then I would learn how to use it.

I just purchased the Canon Pro1000 printer, and so far, I love it. I've received advise that this printer should remain "on" even when not in use. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Yes and if you get brief power outages, be sure that it is connected to a UPS. That way the printer will not want to clean itself after each power blip.

I use a Tamron 18 to 400 on my Nikon D500 and leave the other lenses home.

I was happiest with my portraits when my subjects took my advice and wore neutral clothing. To me, bright colors detract from the face.

I am having trouble using the Nikon WT-7 radio transmitter with my D500. Is there anyone out there who is using the WT-7 successfully. I want to be able to take pictures at an event and have them sent to my MacBook pro for printing. The combination works for a while and then quits. I have to turn off the WT-7 and start over.

Try background paper. It's cheap, comes in rolls, and you can throw it away after each shoot

Since I bought one, it's the lens on my D500 most of the time. I change when I want a F1.8 for depth of field control. It will be the best $500 investment that you will make

I have two SB5000s that I use with my D500. Not only do they work well with just the D500; but also they are great with WR-R-10 radio controller. With the flashes remotely located and wirelessly controlled, you can selectively light subjects 100 feet away. Now of course, the big complaint,. With the high cost of the D500 and the SB5000s, why isn't the radio controller part of the D500 and not an add on. Let's not even discuss the cost of the WT-7. I guess that Nikon's business plan includes making money on the accessories.
