Well, I've never been hijacked at gunpoint anywhere I've lived, either: UK, Malta, Bermuda, California, France. Nor has anyone I've known, even in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. Or for that matter India. Or my brother-in-law, who lives in Mexico.

Are you absolutely sure that there is less crime in the USA than in all 'other countries'? I was burgled once in the UK (maybe 1988); my parents were burgled in Malta in about 1959; and my wife was burgled once in California in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Sure, the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data', but I can't help wondering where you've lived if you regard hijacking at gunpoint and robbery as everyday risks. Certes, US homicide rates argue that it's a rather more dangerous place to live than most (or quite possibly all) of Europe.

Cheers,

R.

I just left living in South Africa. Was there off and on since 1982. Did I live in dangerous places?? I wouldn't call Roodepoort any more dangerous than Pretoria. I never said that the US has less crime then ALL other countries, just seems more secure than other countries I have lived in.

Thanks for the reply, but I'd be grateful if you could explain what you meant about 'security'.

As for the personal anecdote, I probably had about the same in my bank account when I got back to the UK in 1992. By the end of the year I was living in a 5-bedroomed house 100 yards from the beach. Of course I had a mortgage but I earned the deposit and the monthly payments through my writing and photography skills (books and journalism).

All this shows is that you're good at what you do, and I'm good at what I do. It says nothing at all about either the UK or the USA.

Cheers,

R.

Yes, and a Frenchman's vote goes to France, an Englishman's vote goes to England...

How much experience do you have of living (for years at a time) in different countries? Above all, how are you defining 'best'?

Cheers,

I have 40 years of living in different countries and can say that America at this point in time offers the most security. I know that there are the homeless end those without work. Well I came back with $2000 in my pocket. Purchased a truck ($1000) and a used pc. Started designing websites. I now have a newer truck and an office. Not bad for 7 months worth of hard work. It can be done. I never went to get help from the government in anyway.

I have been fortunate to have lived in America, Australia and Africa, and all I say is if you also get the opportunity to travel and see these places and experience the different cultures, GO FOR IT. Home will still be here when you get back. I have seen animal migration in the Serengeti (lived in Arusha), I have seen male lions fighting during mating season, I have seen Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya up close (went to school in Nakuru, Kenya). Go travel and see the world.

Mwac, I am not female, you are right. I don't hate or hatred anybody. I am trying to encourage some anti-christians into believing God before too late for them when they die. The religion people always have the wars each others for thousand years. Ok, who did create "Love" this planet? God DID...

:)

OK I am going to state this one more time, slowly, I have been following this thread, you (yes I'm pointing directly at you CanonJC) have called people names for not believing in "god" or more specifically, not believing in YOUR god. I'm sorry but being a bully, that is what you are doing - you are bullying non-beleivers into your way of thought with the name calling, is NOT going to work.

I don't believe in your god, calling me an idiot, fool, sinner, devil's partner, etc is not going to get me in the doors of your church. Stop being such a religious bully, I'm pretty sure your god doesn't want you do paint him in such a bad light.

Also please don't worry about it being to "late" for me, I'm very happy with the choices I have made in my life and what and who I choose to believe in. Just because you choose to blindly follow a book doesn't mean it's the right thing for me.

Call me BLIND, because I follow the most published book EVER. Must mean something.

I believe that my ancestors were rocks, or maybe a slimy fish with no eyes that breathed carbon monoxide and ran around dodging exploding volcanoes. Their children grew long claws to climb the trees to get a better view of these volcanoes, and on and on. NOT. Evolution????? Hmmm, my kids look like I do for the most part.

I believe in GOD. When I die, and it turns out that there isn't one, well I guess I have wasted my time, but can you imagine when I die and there is a GOD.

EEeeOOOOooo! What an unhappy way to make a living, doing something you don't want!!! What does it do to your reputation as a photographer to give in to people with cheap taste? Photographers might do a little bit to try to lead their clients in a better direction than to sell themselves for money? If it's distasteful to do what people want it's time to find another way to make a living?? Just asking...glad i'm not making myself sick inside every day doing what tasteless people want just for the money..Again,just asking, not meaning to be critical.

WOW....calling people tasteless because they have a different taste than yours, that's a little much, don't you think? If everyone like a "regular" photo/picture wouldn't this world be a boring place. Nothing new would ever become acceptable, no improvements would ever be made because no one else "knows" what is tastefully acceptable..............to you.

I agree 100%. Give the client what they want and reap the rewards. Yes offer advice, but they are the ones with the final say. They are putting food on your table.

The Dr. told me to go on a strict balanced diet. So I figured if I had a beer in each hand, that was all good. :)
