Same situation for me. Finally bought a Canon SX70. Shoots in raw. About $500.
Game was so-so. Commercials poor. The best was Bill Murray and the groundhog.
I bought the sx70 for travel. I also have a Nikon D7000 and some heavy lenses. The canon takes very good pictures.
Check out a company called Monoprice. They all sorts of cables and attachments. Watch your voltages.

I use Photoshop Elements. The transition from JPEG to RAW was not difficult. As several have said try the various trial versions. At one time I had a subscription to Lightroom but did not like the monthly payment. Good luck.
Taken at Fausett Sunflower Farm north of Dawsonville, GA. Shot with a Canon SX70, handheld, windy and overcast.
Have made several trips there. Beautiful, but have never been there in the fall.
