Comparing that to the one in Jaws, you're STILL gonna need a bigger boat !

Not to diminish in the least the accomplishment, but at each point in the climb the rope that they had wrapped around them was anchored to the rock face with extremely strong metal spikes. When he leaped and needed to hold on during the most difficult parts, and failed to hold - the rope(s) but him right back to where he was before the leap. While is it putting a lot of faith in ropes and spikes, I think the safety steps they take would seriously limit the possibilities of completely falling to their deaths.

There are two separate climbs here, documented in "The Dawn Wall" which PBS showed

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/reaching-top

"They marked their progress through different pitches or sections of the route. They used no climbing aids, other than safety ropes, to catch their falls."

And Free Solo which was a different guy (apparently NOT using ropes) going up a more accessible route.

In the Dawn Wall, the two climbers went by a route previously thought impossible.

Let's just hope they have learned the difference between a good thing pointed at them and a bad thing pointed at them. - Moose

Do we not know that laptop batteries are like tires on a car ? From the moment the laptop is put into use, the battery holds less and less of a charge with each passing day until it reaches a point that even at 100% full charge, it may run for 20 minutes as opposed to the day it was first put into use when it would run for many hours. And therwol was correct in saying that changing a battery is generally not that difficult. If you think a battery is gonna run forever, welcome to the real world. As far as laptops and even desktops go, a little maintenance does wonders. On a laptop, the internal cpu fan gets caked with dust and dirt and runs inefficiently and the cpu runs hotter, fan runs faster. Open it up and spray some compressed air into the cpu fan. Like maintenance on a car, blowing out the insides of your desktop/laptop goes a long way towards making it run better.

Windows 8.3 worked well for me. Recently I had occasion to boot up an old computer. It has Windows XP and it was a pleasure to use. Another problem with 10 is that so much of my old software either doesn't work properly or doesn't work at all. Not all of us want to spend a hundred bucks or more on new versions of old programs that get only occasional use.

There was no Windows 8.3. There was Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and then on to Windows 10. There is compatibility mode for old programs that "wont work" under windows 10. You right click on the file that launches to start the program - it has to be an APP or an .exe or a .com - and then look for the Compatibility tab. Once you find that, see compatibility mode - "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and you tick the checkbox for the OS version it ran successfully on. It works a lot of the time.

I use "startisback" as my start menu replacement. startisback.com - it's only $2.99 per PC and if you need more licenses, the cost per lowers it even further. It makes your Windows 10 emulate the Win 7 that you know and love. Classic shell isnt being kept up anymore, but I think startisback has a lot more features and customization than anything else mentioned in this thread.

I am also a longtime IT person and Win 10 is the best thing there is, I just dont like that tiled interface and once I get startisback on it, it's just like "home"

Heck in Windows 7/8/10, just RIGHT CLICK on a jpg and select EDIT. This brings up a very simplistic PAINT which I can add text to very quickly. From the same right click, Paint 3D is available.

I reported on a UPS driver earlier in this thread. But don't think this is limited to the MAJOR delivery services. Don't the street from the place I work is a post office. After work I stopped off for a sandwich and was eating in my car. This place is just about a block from the post office (within walking distance) It was about 5:30 pm say end of the work day for PO employees. One of those little USPS delivery jeeps that we all know, pulled up to a parked sedan, opened the trunk and was observed putting "stuff" in. It was more than say his lunch box.

This time, I didn't want to get involved but it is suspicious and it does show you how easy it might be to get away with stuff like this.

There's good reasons to report the incident to UPS. If you can indulge me in a little story.

Some 10 years ago, I worked in a large computer store full time and did moonlighting in a smaller computer store on the weekends. The smaller store would occasionally get these large Apple boxes with the hot item at the time, a MAC. They got them often and when I questioned this with the business owner, it was revealed that the driver was working with "his loader" to divert these MACs to "his" truck where he would sell them to various people, like my small computer store. It all smelled fishy to me so at the real main job, I just happened to be shipping and receiving manager where I had a good relationship with the UPS driver that dropped off packages daily.

I questioned him about this and gave him as much details as I could and he told me he would get back to me. A couple days later, he tells me that the UPS loss control cops was wanting to work with me and have me "acquire" one of these MACS. It was all very cloak and dagger as I was very skittish to expose my involvement in that manner and potentially get the owner of the weekend job in trouble. I was to meet this loss control guy in some isolated parking lot somewhere and turn over the acquired equipment. It was a very modern "craigs list" type of meetup and I turned the MAC over and he gave me the amount of money I paid to get it.

Perhaps a month later, UPS sent me a check for as I recall, 2.5K as a reward and the driver I was working with to report this supposedly also got a similar reward.

I was told it was done this way because the drivers are all Teamsters and they needed my information and the package. Fortunately, that was my only involvement, I didn't have to go to court or anything and not long after I left the smallish computer store job and that was that. Never heard back from anyone else but one can only imagine what happened to the driver and his loader.

Moral here is that you might be able to do some good and get a thief off the streets and get yourself a little check too. This is a true story, it happened. But it was a LONG time ago.

The main problem with 3rd party carts at least as far as the Pro-100 is concerned is that the carts are engineered differently. The breather airway at the top is not as well engineered as a Canon OEM. The carts don't fit as well into the printer as the Canon OEM. These are well known for NOT being made in the US. The more corners they can cut when making them, the lower the price they can sell them for. That's why * I * refill with Precision Colors inks and invest in used OEM carts I get on ebay that I flush using the fabulous wisdom from Jose Rodriguez on youtube. I think that refilling is still over the long run cheaper than even an LD solution. If you can get WELL EDUCATED on the refilling PROCESS, you'll find that it's the best way to go.
