Oh really?

Every time someone says that we get " an extra hour of daylight" I tell them about global warming. And every time, they respond "There is no change in daylight".

Exactly. The whole "extra hour of daylight" argument is bogus.

The extra hour of daylight is what is causing global warming. If we could spring back and fall forward, for an extra hour of darkness, we could reverse global warming.

Do a search in this forum on MPB. They used to be good and I bought several lenses from them. However, they have changed in recent months and are dishonest, nasty and unreliable. I will never do business with them again. No doubt others will post in their defense, but I am just going on my onw bad experience with them which I have documented in previous posts on this forum.

Back in 1972 I bought a Toshiba EE-101 light meter at a camera store in Vancouver, BC. I shot Kodachrome 25 and I knew I should use 1/125 at F8 on a sunny day. The meter seemed to be off by a couple of stops, so I took it back to the store. The salesperson was reluctant to believe me at first, but they had some way of checking the meter, and when he did that, he told me "You are right, it is off by exactly two f-stops". He exchanged it for another one, and that one was right on. I still have it, although I never need it these days.

Have been with NordVPN for several years, no problems. Tried Norton last year to combine all my protection services, horrible experience, made my system crash frequently, so I went back to Webroot+NordVPN.

I've bought several ukuleles from foreign countries, and I always kept my fingers (figuratively) crossed. So far, so good.

Playing the ukulele with your fingers crossed must be quite a trick, and probably sounds awful.

I have a D5500 and D5600 and like them both. No problems with either one. The D7500 is just a bit too big and heavy for my liking, and does not offer any features I need (since the depth of field preview feature was dropped). The only difference between the two which I notice is that the D5500 works with my old handheld remote from my D60, but the D5600 uses the Snapbridge app on my cell phone for remote shooting.

The older D5000 and D5100 do not work with the latest AF-P lenses, so they are not a great choice.

The OP's experience fits with my recent experience with MPB. I had good luck buying and selling until early this year. They declined to purchase an item I had sent them, after they quoted on it, because their web site had quoted for a different item. Ok, mistakes happen. But when they returned my item, they "lost" the instruction manual and one accessory. They then refused to even investigate unless I sent them a copy of my driver's license and a bank statement. They screw up, they lose parts, and they want me to disclose confidential information which they don't need. Why? Are they selling my information? I will not deal with them ever again.

The comments critical of the OP on this forum are similar to the comments I got when I posted about my experience. There are always some people who feel they have to attack every post which warns about a company based on a personal experience. You may have had good luck with MPB: it is your decision whether or not to continue using them. But that is no reason to attack others who are posting about their bad experiences.

I have always found that MPB gives the best prices on used gear. I have even had many instances where they upped their online offer upon receipt and inspection of the items. They seem to be very honest to deal with. Never had them go down on an online quote.

Let me echo what the original poster said: it is all about RECENT experiences. I always had good luck buying and selling from MPB. But earlier this year I got a quote from them on a Sony video camera. I sent them the camera, and they emailed me saying that they did not deal in that model - their web site had substituted a different model number from what I had entered and quoted for the different model. They sent the camera back, missing the instruction manual and one of the two microphones I had sent them. When I contacted them, they refused to investigate the missing items unless I sent them a copy of my driver's license and a recent bank statement. Neither of which they needed unless they planned to sell the information to criminals. They used to be pleasant to deal with, now they are just downright nasty.

I did post here about my experience and got the usual responses about how great they are and how it is all my fault. All I can say is that companies change, the industry is changing, prices and profits on used gear are down, so look at RECENT experiences and reviews before making a decision.

I used to use MPB, but earlier this year I sent them a video camera. They then informed me that they would not complete the deal because they had quoted for the wrong item. When they returned my equipment, they failed to return the use manual and a spare microphone. When I contacted them, they demanded that I send them a copy of my driver's license and a recent bank statement before they would even agree to investigate. Only a fool would send that sort of confidential information to a company which had already proved that they cannot be trusted. Yes, many people here have had good luck with MPB, and so did I, until recently. Use them at your own risk but be aware of their hostile attitude when they screw up.

What an even stupider comment.

Any decision by others must be based on the policies in place at MPB which include demanding confidential information before addressing an issue. I leave it to the other members here to decide if my warning is relevant to their decisions, and I suggest that you do the same.

Your understanding of the market seems far more questionable than mine. You are saying that it is OK for MPB to offer $800 for a camera worth $2,800 and make $2,000 on the deal? Few people would take an offer like that, and they would be out of business in no time. They make their money by moving equipment quickly, with a reasonable margin. To do so, they have to offer reasonable purchase prices.

I figured that $800 was reasonable for a camera in excellent condition based on eBay pricing, given that not all of the products on eBay are in excellent condition. MPB offers a warranty, so they can sell at or above the higher range of prices on eBay. They could easily make $400 on a $800 investment. They deal only in photographic equipment and know their market, they are not like Pawn Stars where they might end up holding an item for years before a buyer walks in.

What makes your entire discussion pointless is that the issue is not whether or not the price was reasonable. It is that they lost my manuals and microphone, refused to even look for them, accused me of lying, and demanded information which would, if misused, cause me financial harm. And it all started because their web site led me through the process of obtaining a quote on something other than what I had entered as the model number. So stop blaming the victim and put the blame where it belongs, with MPB.

What the prices from Amazon and eBay are saying is that an offer to buy of USD 795 from a reseller, for an item which is being marketed at a retail or auction price of USD 700 - 1,200, ought to have been suspect.

What a stupid comment.

This is what MPB said in the most recent email:

"While we understand the closing of the investigation was not the ideal outcome, we were not able to even begin the investigation into finding your lost accessories due to not receiving the requested documentation. We have no malicious intent in requesting these documents - quite the opposite, we have these protocols in place to protect our customers as well as our business. This was not an attack on your character at all, but rather extra security measures in place to prevent fraud from occurring which unfortunately does happen from time to time.
I understand hesitancy in not wanting to provide personal information, but please understand that as a result, due to our policies, we were not able to move forward with the investigation. It's unfortunate we were not able to take the steps to resolve this for you."

In other words, if you have an issue with any MPB transaction, you can expect to have to provide a copy of your driver's license, the top part of your bank statement (including account numbers and available balance) and receipts for any equipment at issue. Otherwise they will refuse to even address the issue, even something as simple as looking for a missing user manual.

If you are OK with this policy, that is your choice. It is most certainly not something I consider reasonable or without substantial risk.

Beyond that, there seems to be little point in continuing this discussion when there is a difference of opinion and neither side is going to change their opinion.

So what this is saying is that MPB offered $795 for a camera which lists for three times that on Amazon?

Inability or unwillingness to learn, or to accept that situations may have changed, is a key characteristic of the masses on this forum. It's why misinformation and error persist. Thanks for the comments, Larry. If my comments hep a few people avoid problems, that is something. MPB seems to have an attitude change, from very helpful and friendly to totally hostile and avoiding any accountability for their mistakes. I wonder if they became so successful that they were bought out. Their corporate culture is so obvioulsy different from what it used to be.
