May I suggest a narrow aperture and setting your focus about 1/3 or slightly less into the lathe. It may give you a little more depth (longer exposure). It's a great photo, I'd just like to see more detail in the distance.

does anyone know someone that likes to take cameras apart ? I have several pocket Nikons that have been dropped but
because of potential cost I have not had them repaired but rather got a new one---

I know there is a minimum charged by Nikon for services. Are your pocket cameras worth repairing?

I'm a beginner and am looking for my first DSLR. I had a 35mm Minolta outfit back in the early 90's and ever since wanted a DSLR but couldn't afford it.
Now, I have some money (not a lot) but, I'm having a hard time with all the options.
I do mostly portraits and scenic's and wildlife pics. What brand/options/lens ect. DSLR would you suggest?
I had my eye on a Canon EOS Rebel T7i that just came out but I'm unsure if that's a good choice since I've been out of the game for so long.
Is the Canon a good choice for quality/ options/ ease of use/ availability of accessories/ money ect. or should I go with a different model? or Brand?
I would love everyone's input.

Budget,... that evil word.
Considering that and the fact that my Wife and I both wanted a camera that wasn't going to require a constant need to feed the lens mount, we did some research and both settled (I say 'settled' reluctantly as the only down side was that our choice couldn't shoot RAW format) on a 24-2000mm image stabilizing sealed bridge camera, the Nikon P900

It's more than you will ever need and will save you a fortune on accessories.

Just my 2 cents.

Also, it comes in #3 of the 'greats' in dpreview. https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/2016-roundup-consumer-long-zoom-compacts

Hi Dale, I too am a sucker for the GBH but probably not for it's cooperation as the ones around my area are extremely opposed to human intervention hence my Nikon P900 which I use to 'get close'.

Love your images, particularly the first one which provides competition between the reeds (cattails?) and the Heron. It almost blends in with it's surroundings.

Welcome aboard from another GB lover and newbie in Bucks County, PA.

Go spend $500 and get the Nikon P900 (24-2000mm optical zoom with image stabilization). Leave everything else home and enjoy your trip.

I know I keep pushing this camera but, it's because I own it, have used it, and have confidence in it.

The ONLY thing it can't do is shoot RAW but image size is significant and if you want to get reviews, go to dp review and look it up. Link provided below.

Sure was!! I bought a TI Scientific Calculator for my mathematics classes in 1980(?) It cost me $500. In 1987, in all math classes, we "loaned" each student a TI 81 Graphing Calculator for the year. Now, most kids in school, cannot function without access to a computer. Textbooks are becoming a thing of the past. It's definitely an advance of technology, but I'm not totally convinced it is healthy progress. Of course I'm "old".

TI 99/4A was it? I had one.

I'm seeing SSD's now (Solid State Drives). By comparison, a SSD is a Display of information compared to the HD which would be a book you have to page through to find what you want.

That looks like a Red Squirrel,... it may be a regular but it's not a common sight to see for my neck of the woods. We see the Grey's and Black Squirrels here in Bucks County. It's pretty rare to see the Reds.

What keldon said. Let dry, clean with needle or dental tools and blow out. Most cameras are well sealed against moisture so mud is surely blocked from getting in unless you literally submerged your camera.

Hi,

I have considered this many times but have not done it. It obviously worked for you? Were you sending it to a hotel? I'm just afraid it will get lost. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

From the article:
The Trump administration has ordered nine airlines to stop passengers from bringing most types of electronic devices -- not including smartphones -- into the cabin for U.S.-bound flights. Instead, those devices must be checked in.

I don't understand the difference between the plane being blown up from within the cabin or from the cargo hold. Makes little sense to me. Especially from countries that don't have good security measures. I can just see the terrorists now: "Let's get those bombs in the luggage now!"

I saw nothing in the article nor in other articles about how security is going to be able to declare all checked luggage safe and free of explosives. Has anyone?
