I doubt it, the 6D is a pretty good low light camera. No camera is excellent when ISO is pushed, the Sony's have been good performers but you are going back away, why not do some comparison tests.

I'll stick to my Canon then. Maybe I am thinking about it too much and should just get out there and give it a go!

Thanks for the replies!!!!!

Just to throw something else in to the mix. I also have access to a Sony A7 (Mk 1) with an adaptor for Canon lenses. Would this be better than my 6D body - which doesn't seem to be that good in low light?

I need a bit of advice/some opinions...........

I am having a go at night street photography for the first time in a few days time and I am torn between what lens to use. I have a Canon 35mm f2 IS lens and a 40mm f2.8 at my disposal and I will be shooting a FF 6D.

I like the size and "disctreetness" of the 40mm and the (slightly) superior image quality. Saying that the IS of the 35mm would make things a little easier, as would the wider FOV.

Which would you use, and why?

TIA

I have the 16-35 F4L IS and I highly recommend it. I was toying with this or the f2.8L. but after renting both lenses, doing a bit of pixel peeping etc. I opted for the f4L - it seemed to be the better of the two and suited me, my style and also my pocket more.

My experiences of third party off-brand battery grips are bad and I would always recommend spending more on the genuine model. I bought a third party battery grip for my EOS450d back in the day, and it was utter rubbish. When I upgraded to the 7d I bought another third party grip (this one was an expensive one) and that too was only worthy for the bin. I ended up buying the genuine Canon grip and it is something I wish I did in the first instance. Buy cheap, buy twice, IMO

I can't use a screw in filter holder with this lens and have to use ND gels placed at the back of the lens. : (

Hi

I have the use of a Canon 8-15 fisheye lens for a trip to Ireland and I want to do some long exposure photography (to capture the stunning coastline). I know I will have to use the filter holder at the rear of the lens however I want to make sure I can't damage the lens or the camera in doing so. Has anyone used an ND filter in the slot in the back of the Canon 8-15 fisheye lens? Is it really safe to do so?

On another note - any idea where you get the ND filters from? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks!

There's a review on BHP here https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1132914-REG/mefoto_mcp58t_58mm_wild_blue_yonder.html Doesn't say much though. I would spend the extra 10 bucks or so and buy a Hoya (a tried, trusted and good brand).

I use an air blower (holding the lens with the front element facing downwards so the dust "falls" off), use the brush end of a lens pen to sweep away excess dust and dirt, carefully use the pad end of the lens pen (in a circular motion - I have no idea why I use use a circular motion!) and then give it a final wipe with a micro fiber lens cloth. If the lens/filter has stubborn smears I use a *lens specific* fluid.

I finally had a go at photographing flying birds, and I have to say it is more challenging than I thought it would be. A few hours and hundreds of shots later the above are the best of the bunch (even the headless bird! Lol). There is a lot of work to be done and a lot more practice required I think, but I'm looking forward to the next attempt.

Mine was a point and shoot Olympus Mu (had a funny symbol) and it was champagne gold in color. I wanted a camera for a trip to St Vincent and the Grenadines, and I chose the Olympus because it came with a remote so I could use it to photograph pictures of myself holding (and proving) the carp I caught when I went on fishing trips by myself. Can't remember the pixel count or much about it, other than it took xd cards and I spent a fortune on a "huge" 64mb one. I was a bit of a late starter to dslrs, but when I bought my first one, a Canon 450d (which I still have), I was became hooked on photography and have been since.

As others have said an L lens is fine on crop sensor camera. Just one thing to remember is that a 70 - 300 will be an effective 112 - 480 lens, so it won't be any good if you want to shoot wider than 112mm. If you want to shoot wide the Canon 28 - 300L IS lens is an effective ~45mm - 480mm. I own a Canon 28 - 300L and can confirm it is an excellent lens that is well built, sharp and has great image quality. The only disadvantage with the 28 - 300L is its size - it is a big and heavy lens, but you have to take the rough with the smooth right? I mitigate the effects of carrying a heavy lens using the Lower Pro Toploader AW 75 sling back - this takes a bit of the weight and also keeps the lens well protected and saves it from knocks and scrapes when I am carrying it around. Just a thought.......
