I rarely use flash and I am looking for one for Nikon D7000 .I would like recommendations for that would take advantage of TTL and be relatively inexpensive

A SB700 or a used SB600 would be all you would ever need. I like to stay with Nikon, however there are some on UHH that like a few third party flashes.

Yongnuo seems to be popular, various models with TTL, reasonable price. I use my SB600 on my D7000 and am happy with it. You might find a used one online, various sources.

Agree!

hzaifert,
One bonus is that these flashes can be controlled off-camera with the pop-up flash from the D-7000 in ttl or manual mode. There are third-party speedlights that can do this as well, but I'm only familiar with Nikon.

Thus far my Nissin Di866 (Nikon model) has filled all my previous needs with my D80 and currently with my D7100. Reasonable price and good performance.

Depends on what you need the flash for. I use a Nikon SB-400 on my D7200 and D500. It is a fantastic little flash. Well made and works great. They are no longer made but Nikon made a lot of them so there are a lot of them available used. This little flash will do the job as well as a larger unit while saving you space and money.

I don't know anything about them. But yesterday while in Best Buy, I saw that they sell their own brand (Insignia) of TTL flash units for Canon and Nikon. $69.00 each.

Yongnuo YN-685 for the Nikon for the price you can't o wrong. This is their newer model with radio receptors built in that can save a little down the road if you ever have a requirement for radio triggering. I have 2 of the YN-568's and have never had a problem with them. The way I looked at it is that I could buy 3 to 5 of these for the price of a Nikon and they basically do the same thing.

I used my SB800 for years. Added several Yongnuo for a portable "studio", but the Nikon flashes are great.
