I own this camera, and it is amazing. I have pro level canon gear, but this camera gets picked up most when I randomly want the shot. Sometimes I have two cameras out, and if shooting the same subject with both cameras, often the keepers are shot with this honey of a camera. Prepare to be humbled😜

I am interested in the canon 100-300. I have been a member/observer for a couple of years, but haven't posted or responded to anything. Please let me know if you have it and what I do next. Dee Fitzsimmons

I like #1, however I do like the tall light weeds behind the rock in #2, and #3 included. Both #2 and #3 have a strong horizontal line at the bottom of the photo which looks like a poor addition, as compared to #1. I think part of the horse problem is the lack of contrast between the head and the barn. If you moved the horse into the foreground, and made him bigger, contrast between his head and the grasses improves and the directional line of his back moves the viewers eye to the right. Before you fully decide, try that. If you like that, then you can make the horse the focal point, by slightly blurring the barn, etc. #1 has the barn as the focal area, but I would add the light weeds right. If you like the horse included, try the above, making the horse the focal area, but give attention to contrast between the horse and the grasses, and slightly blur the rest
of the background, again indicating that the horse is the subject of interest.

Help me post the images, please. Apparently I put what I want to say here. I will try "choose file" and see if that works! I see one but not two. This one is from Luminar.

Great fun playing with your work! The first one is using Aurora, and the second one with Luminar. Thanks for the "practice"!

I HAD AN OLD CANON 20D DONE BY LIFE PIXEL, AND I LIKE THE IDEA OF NO FILTERS NEEDED. I CHOSE THE COLOR OPTION, BUT TRUTHFULLY, I MOSTLY MAKE MY IMAGES BW ANYWAY. IT OPERATES USING CHANNELS, WHICH GIVES YOU SOME CONTROL WITHIN THAT SETTINGS AREA. WORKS WELL AND WOULD PROBABLY GO THAT ROUTE AGAIN.

I use Weebly.com for my photos for clients as well as my own personal work. I use a paid version, but there is also a free version as well. I like the simplicity of it; photos can be organized by subject, with comments (or not) and run one by one for the viewer as well as slideshow style. Loading your images is simple too. Give it a look-see.

I own the Canon Pro 10. It is a great printer, but the real benefit is that I order inks directly from Canon, and for every 3 tanks you order, you get 3 free gifts in the form of printing paper. I just ordered 7 tanks at 14.99 each and got two 50 sheet packs of 13 by 19 paper, and four 8.5 by 11 packs of platinum paper for free! You take the free stuff (that they select), but it has almost eliminated my need to buy paper.

I always have papers for those pro bono situations that come up. The Epson I had before was also good, but I had more issues with it. Tech support with the Canon has been excellent, when needed.....which is almost never.

I own the 28-300 and it is amazing! It is also very heavy...close to 5 pounds. I used it for wedding photos on the 50 yard line for the groom and I never would have gotten the shots otherwise. I also have the 24-105 and it has become my "go to lens" for many uses. I am happy to have both. Cost considered, it is a lot of money for those times I need it. Now that I have both, I am happy to have them. Just saying..... (yes, I'm a woman)

Alec, I think the other response regarding the guy's hand position is correct. Maybe one hand directly on his thigh would be more intentional. For me, I would squat so that the landscape behind him would create a leading line where his head would be intersected (not in the middle though) by that line.

Compositionally only 3 things create a center of interest (best if not in the center, and like someone else said), so that the space toward which his eyes lead is larger than the opposite side. The three things are lines that lead your eye toward your intended subject, a shape different than other things in the composition, and a color, or texture, or complexity that is dominant in some way. Usually only one of those is not enough. Try for a minimum of two, and even three if possible. You subject is of course the shape that is different. By squatting as you take the photo, his head is higher and is intersected by the background lines (that's 2), A jacket is a color, or value, or texture different than the background can help the subject pop, but so can lighting him, so I often use a speed light, even in daylight to lighten shadows of the face, etc, making him stand out through lighting. (all 3).

Teaching art for 30 years helped me come to the conclusion that photography IS AN ART. Plan on taking lots to pics, and also plan on deleting lots as you refine your eye. Good effort for both images! (and welcome!)

I have the Canon Pro 10 and love it. It is basically a photo printer. Ink costs can make you scream uncle, but when ordering on line, I always get assorted free photo papers! (a great idea for using up ink regularly! Works wirelessly so you don't need to have it next to your computer. I also have a Mac and their support is superior to Epson (had the Epson 1900 before this one). Good luck with your decision.

YES, AND VIEWERS CAN ALSO GO THROUGH THE PHOTOS INDIVIDUALLY FOR LONGER VIEWING. YOU CAN SET UP THE LENGTH OF TIME IN SLIDESHOW FORMAT, AND I USUALLY USE 3-5 SECONDS PER IMAGE. IT HAS THE CAPACITY TO ADD MUSIC, WHICH I DON'T USE.

ONCE LOADED INTO THE FILE, THE PHOTOS CAN BE REARRANGED, AND TEXT ADDED IF NEEDED. FOR YOU THAT MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO IDENTIFY PEOPLE BY NAME, ETC. FOR ME, I LOAD LOW RES JPEG IMAGES IN THE SAME SEQUENCE AS I TOOK THEM, MAKING COMPARISONS EASIER, FOR MY CLIENTS.
