To some extent these things are true, but....
1. That older generation that did all that suffering invented much of that stuff including the plastic bags.
2. Much of that heroic older generation bought into and purchased and possessed those convenient things.
3. Some of those inventions the older generation went without saved us some. Dish washing in a machine is easier, and great for the lazy, but it uses a very considerable less hot water and does the job better that most of those heroic older generation dishwashers.
4. It was a small window of time when the older generation had to heroically suffer watching a handkerchief sized television that they invented and then worked on to make it bigger and bigger.
5. Those huge televisions also used a lot of voltage and have mostly been replaced by big screened televisions that are much more energy efficient on the positive side.
6. I don't believe for even a minute that there are that many homes that have a television in every room. Who these days can afford that many televisions.
7. Escalators and elevators were invented by people in that heroic self-scarifying older generation and demanded they be installed in the stores and buildings. That generation is just as prone to avoid shopping in a 10 story store if there is a similar store all on the same level with no stairs. But then again that youngster did not design 99% of that stuff meant for the lazy stair avoiding types.
8. I could go on and on.

To see the current generation as lazy is a big failure in your ability to see the whole truth, because you fail to see the advantages they have been taught to use by that heroic self-sacrificing older generation who walked 10 miles to school in 10 foot of snow up hill both ways.

This lazy generation buys bicycles, but does not take them to school because they don't want to lose them because the citizens of the past have failed to work hard enough on social issues to make the world safe to take your bike to school and still have it to ride home with.

The younger generation does not as a whole give condescending lectures to little old ladies for needing her groceries in plastic bags that her generation invented to replace those STILL USED and AVAILABLE paper bags.

To be honest, most of us oldsters simply appreciate all those things. Some may believe nostalgically those self-sacrificing efforts made us somehow some kind of heroically better. Most of us simply appreciate that those youngsters are around and see them working the best they can in a world they did not invent and hopefully will work at making the world better than what the older generation attained.

Voyager has not left the galaxy. Has just left the solar system.

Cute.
But:
The current generations and others beyond the "Greatest Generation" are innovating and have not stopped doing so.
The old man is correct that his generation invented the stuff, but most likely he did not invent anything and just rode the coattails of his generations innovators just like most everybody does, these days and from just after the first innovator in time.
"The arrogant Shit" at least did not take credit for inventing everything.

Greetings All;
I hope you are all safe and more than surviving!!!
This message is for the "man"
Persons who sacrifice are heros.
Their heroism wears thin when they fight for freedom and then complain that the free use that freedom.
At least the "man" should understand that the current despised generation have not had quite the same opportunity to sacrifice as he and his generation have done...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICES, but remember that you fought and sacrifices for those freedoms.
If you fought for those to conform to your view of what they should have done with the freedom you so fought for, then you were not fighting for their freedom, you were fighting for them to be free to follow your example and be like you and not what they became.
As for the "Greatest Generation" sacrifices, you forget that men and women have been there to protect our freedoms. Vets are also from the Korean war times, the Vietnam war time, they still are sacrificing in Afghanistan and the Middle East as well as countless bases and ships around the world...most ready and willing if and when the need arises.
Don't despise the free for acting free until they have the opportunity to fight and sacrifice like others have done and truly failed to live up to reasonable standards...not your pumped up self-righteous view of sacrifices you made concerning threats to your life and ways back then.
Perhaps you have valid reasons to be bitter, etc....but the nice person who offered assistance to you did not need to have endured your lack of appreciation for bBurns's offer of help.

Seriously? You think a little white girl would have the police called on her in San Francisco under the same situation.
Seriously? You believe that there has not been some overreach by some police personnel.
Seriously? You believe that it was not r****t that a white lady beat the crap out of a Mexican tourist?
Seriously? You think it was a benign reaction to a black boy mowing a lawn...to call the police?
Seriously? You don't believe that r****m isn't a problem or is not intermixed with the different outcomes of interaction with authorities experienced by B****s compared to w****s?
Seriously?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Get real! For an example of how white privilege is expressed see how an Arizona policeman reacted to a speeding white legislator and just project what would have happened if the speeder had been a black man.

Polarizing, yes. On one side you have people who see r****m in America as bad and the other side who want to wrap themselves in the f**g and wilfully disregard the legitimate feelings, legitimately projected in a way that hopefully lead to justice for the citizens of the USA who are being failed by some of law enforcement people.

Hello everybody!!!
I am both pleased and disappointed.
So many see the kneeling of a sportsman as bad. That is disappointing.
The men and women who have fought for our country did so to protect our ways.
That includes the right to stand up to the autocratic ones who think they get to say what is the correct way to be and everybody else is wrong and not to be tolerated.
Soldiers stormed beaches, Sailors fought on the seas, Air Force personnel flew into combat and citizens worked hard at home to make the whole show work for preserving our way of life.
They fought for the right to be part of a country that honors standing up or kneeling down as they feel appropriate to protect rights or fight for rights that are being withheld.
When NFL players think that kneeling is appropriate to show to us the wrongs being done to their part of our community they are honoring those who stormed the beaches for something good to be an outcome.
If I stormed the beaches of Normandy to protect The United States ways and it turned out that somebody failed to continue to fight for the rights of others to be protest, I would be mad and disappointed.
So sports warriors take to your knees.
Tell the country that all is not right in the world. Bad is happening.
Many r****ts have thrown off their restraints and think it is now ok to call the police on an enterprising youngster mowing lawns for some trifle issue or selling water on the streets of San Francisco.
They think it is alright to harass an American citizen out of ignorance about what The United States is composed of....because she wears a shirt that is fashioned out of a Puerto Rican f**g.
They think it is OK to separate children from their parents.
Now about being pleased. A great deal number of you on this site have come out as reasonably moderate in your opinions...Thank God there are still good people out there. I see many people out there who are seeing through the misinformation and hatred being spun out by...sorry...mostly Alt-right Republicans.

You can see and photograph the Milky Way at other times of the year...just not that most interesting heart of the galaxy.
Back on 22 January 2017 the Milky Way was visible at 12:46 p.m.
just not the best time and it was cold and clouds were a problem.

Another important thing to consider is your white balance. I go to the setting and use the Kelvin setting about 3200 to 5000 depending on the color you want to bring out. Experiment with this setting. One way is warmer..brings out the reds the other is more blue range realizations. Definitely do not use AWB. I have used as low as 3200 with good results.
I try to keep my exposures at below 15 to 20 sec with a full frame Mark III. Longer exposures cause the stars to be arcs.
A fast lens is best to use as wide angle as possible down to 14mm or so. My lowest focal length lens is a 24mm to 70mm at the 24 end.
For operating camera setting, fixing and adjusting settings light, use a headlamp or flashlight that is red only to preserve night vision best. Be aware of others who may also be taking Milky Way photos. Consider light painting the foreground and even middleground.
I advise setting up during the later day. It is much easier to setup and safer to get to your shooting location.
When I loose focus after dark, I have had success using the all the way to infinity and them back slightly to recover that focus.
You can use apps to locate where the milky way is located such as photopills.
A shooting companion is wise in case you need to be rescued from mishaps.
Fun night sky activities include star trails.
If you have appropriate programs, like Lightroom, it is easy to make panorama stitched together images.
Think about that it might get cold.
I do not use High ISO noise reduction because my camera takes so long to process the image and the relevant noise reduction can be accomplished just as well in Lightroom.
If you have shots that are a little to moderately underexposed, the exposure adjustment can surprise you on gaining a good image from that shot.
Have fun. Be safe.
