I shoot FP4+, K100, and mostly F100, all bulk from the usual NYC vendors . D76 or Microdol-X 1:1 and Kodak chem. Negatives get scanned on a refurb V600. (I’d like to spend time at the enlarger but the time cost is prohibitive for me.) I’ve come up with similar per-negative costs in the past.

For those for whom equipment costs are a key variable though, there can be no denying that digital is quite costly compared to film (even if you do quickly and offhandedly capture 100 digital images to my considered three so that we both might end up with one image we like, how many get used?

I’m no hipster, nor follower of fashion. Cut my teeth on TriX in the 60s, gave a try to digital around 2009 for awhile, and then returned to film, relegating digital for family snapshots and movies about 5 years ago. It IS better for that purpose than film in my opinion.

I take good care of my equipment. I’m on my 5th Powershot (G12, warranty placed G12, G1x/2, warranty replaced G1x2, now G1x/3) in just over a decade. My 50+/- year old Nikons don’t break and use magnificent relatively inexpensive glass. $100 pays for the CLA that nearly ensures the equipment will outlast me. And as “mature” tech, the risk of GAS costs are minimal.
Easy answer for me….but I shoot for the image and experience I want, not to try to minimize my costs….

These are being put up on EvilBay as auctions with starting prices 10-20% less than I would have set as "buy it now." I will consider reasonable offers at all points. It's not collector-grade stuff.....the EL might be close except for the fact that the EL I think is way undervalued for what it is, especially objectively assessed vs the F, Nikkormat FTn, and (yes I know I risk being roasted) even against the vaunted F2. I'm not out to get rich off this equipment but it has all been carefully cared for, and has serviced me very well so I'm looking for fair offers for fairly represented 'known quantities.' I'm selling off some of my equipment because I've finally learned (maybe) which of my cameras give me the most enjoyment, and so rather than spread myself too thin and not use stuff (the worst thing that can happen to mechanical devices) or dilute the pleasure of using my favorites, it's time to move these nice instruments into hands of people who will make good use of them. That said, I think the auctions open at these prices plus shipping (please confirm these on my wife's eBay store "Ostricajazz Attic":

N'mat FT / Nikkor-S 5 cm f/2: $125

N'mat EL / Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4: $150

F Photomic : $250

F3 (nonHP)/ 50mm Nikkor f/2 and DW-4 accessory finder, $350

Vito II (NOT on eBay, I'm asking $4o + shipping)

While I've seen many expositions of B/W and color renderings of the same scene---often very well done--- it's my opinion that these comparos deny the undeniable fact that an image is more than the intensities of retinal rod and cone stimulation. Form and structure lead to stimulation of other brain areas fed by visual cortex and by themselves contribute to conscious recognition and judgements.

Thus, B/W vs. color imaging are two fundamentally different things and possibly only technically overlapping aspects of photography.

In my opinion, the B/W version has little content. The color version is very interesting and provocative. I doubt that image manipulation on its own can make anything of interest from the B/W version unless you drive it into an abstract realm.....but then it becomes something completely different.

just sent a private message - I think PayPal would be most efficient and take the least amount of time. I'll have to go learn how to do that, but I've bought stuff from Jim Grey and Jon Goodman in the past using PayPal so I know it can be done.

As part of downsizing, I'm selling off some of my film equipment. All of this is equipment I've been using and so I know works well, you can see images that include from this equipment on flickr at ppsfilm and ppscolor58.

Nikon FM, black with some minor brassing, no big dents, selling it as a "lightweight daypack kit" (as I've used it), equipped with Nikkor 43-86mm black barrel (later AI version) zoom. Overall VG cosmetics. new Jon Goodman seal kit within past 3 years; $185 plus shipping

Nikkormat EL, chrome, looks and operates like new, with Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 in Excellent condition, will include battery and black Nikkormat case in VG condition. new Jon Goodman seal kit within past 3 year. I've used this kit mostly for color over the past few years, metering seems to be spot-on. $175 plus shipping.

Nikon F "Apollo" version with working Photomic FTn viewfinding, CLA by Vermont Camera in Jan '20, along with new Jon Goodman foam kit; in good to VG cosmetic condition. Small ripple in top cover near rewind crank. Photomic FTn viewfinder was working when I bought it, but somewhat jumpy; I cleaned the ring resistor and wired diode into metering circuit to allow modern battery use. Meter calibrated by me against my F3 using a Kodak grey card, and metering now works well with good results using Ilford FP4+/Kentmere100 and Fomapan 100 - I haven't shot any other speeds or color film with this camera. I point this out because you might want to recalibrate according to your needs; it's easy to do following online instructions. This camera has been one of my primary users for the past several years. I'm selling it since I've found that having figured out how to fix my owned-since-new Nikkormat a few months ago, I've not been using this good-to-go classic. $300

Nikkor GN 45mm f/2.8, nonAI version, CLA/lube about a year ago, in nearly-new condition. $125

Will provide more pix on request. There will be more equipment to sell in upcoming months as well. No, I'm not abandoning film, but am choosing to limit my cameras to a Nikkormat, an S2, a Kodak Signet 35, and maybe the F3; that collection I've found serves my needs well. The others are getting sold off as I "say goodbye" to some old friends.

Condition of all sales is I ship when the check clears or cash arrives, shipping charge will be what it costs me (no handling charge). Will not ship outside of USA. I will accept returns within 10 days as long as equipment is returned at buyer's expense in the same condition in which I shipped it.
