I’m using a 500 f4 with adapter on the R5 and its amazing as well as the EF 70-200 so far but my 100-400 ll and EF 24-105 and 16-35 would likewise work well I have no doubt.

I was in the exact same spot with the 7d and the guys here really helped especially @CHG_Canon in helping me make the leap from DSLR to Mirrorless. I opted for the R5 and though a big decision it was definitely the right one for me. Its a great camera but there’s a learning curve for sure. Well worth the effort. Amazing camera!

Do not let lack of experience discourage you from asking questions.
There are (at least) two ways to learn: making mistakes and asking questions.

Thank you for the encouragement!

I probably shouldn’t even be on here. I don’t even know how to navigate this site.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just looked at my responses and you must be addressing the Wow! You guys are smart! If you knew how non-technical I am you would know that was a sincere reply. I was a bit overwhelmed at the knowledge and I’m sure I could’ve and should’ve been more careful with my wording.

My apologies and only the highest respect was intended to all the kind and gracious responders.

I had no idea or intention of any such thing. I honestly have no idea what response you’re eluding to Hugh. It would by all means be disrespectful on this platform to ask for help and do that. Wrongly interpreted and accused my friend.

Well I know what I need to do if I can. You guys are all very knowledgeable and I am not particularly when it comes to technology.

Appreciate the responses so very much!

A few years ago I read in OP mag or somewhere it was a good idea to create “dng” when importing images bc as technology changes it protects your images for the future. It takes twice as long to import plus I no longer have a CR file when I do that. So the first question is does anyone do this/recommend it? Second question is how do you turn it off in LR?

Thanks,

Hi guys! Back in December I was ready to buy a new lens for more reach. I submitted a question regarding the Sigma and Tamron 150-600 and 150-500 respectively to see what you had to say about them in comparison to my Canon 100-400 with the Canon 1.4 III extender. I have thought about this previously and wasn't sure if I should make this public so Paul I hope it's ok. All of your answers were good but @CHG_CANON challenged me and said I had the gear I needed and I just needed to learn to use it. I had tried using the TC many times and after a while after I bought it I decided there was no way I could get sharp images with it so I put in my bag and pretty much forgot about it. He wouldn't except that as the final answer and for the next month email after email working with my technique, make sure of micro adjustments, etc he taught me how to get sharp images. I am not tech savy and this was no easy task for him but he started out with me on this endeavor and he stayed the course though I'm sure I frustrated the heck out of him at times. So I just wanted to publicly say "thank you friend" for being the teacher you are and going way beyond the call of duty. I have attached a photo I took today fully extended to 890mm and a good distance from the subject using this set up. I'm still not there yet but much further along than I would have been without our highly valuable member. Couldn't have done it without you pal!

Thanks once again!

Danny
