There is no such thing as a free lunch. The cost of shipping is added on or included in the price charged for any item you order.

Sending your photos out is very expensive and unnecessary.

I used the scanner on my Epson printer to scan old photos from my family. Some photos are nearly one hundred years old.

First, do not attempt to clean the photos. That will most likely damage them.

Second, place the photos on your scanner and scan at a high dpi. Above three hundred may take a bit more time, but is worth it.

Third, any cleaning up of the digitalized photos can now be done with your favorite software.

Fourth, save your old photos in an acid-free album by laying them flat. Do not stand them on edge.

Fifth, all of the above applies to documents.

If you are satisfied with the equipment you have, do not waste your money on the latest thing to be offered. Wait a moment with patience until your main camera is broken and then and only then go shopping.

I have some old family photographs that I inherited from my mother. Some of these photos are more than one hundred years old. The photos are interesting as many are in the form of a postcard. The photos are a mixture of studio portraits, photos taken by family members, and, most interesting, photos taken of crews harvesting the fields in Nort Dakota using steam-powered tractors. As you can imagine, the photos are not always on photographic paper. They seem to be on cardboard similar to card stock. The card stock has grown soft over the years and soiled. How do I clean them? More importantly, should I clean them? I have scanned them into Photoshop and restored them as best as I can with the software. Any ideas?

I have a Nikon D5100 and am considering upgrading to a higher level camera. I am not new to photography nor to digital. Expense is a consideration only if I have to sell my first born if you understand my meaning. What do you suggest I buy and what do you suggest I do with my 5100? I really like the way the digital vewier on the back rotates so that I can take photos from a low level without getting down on my belly. I have bad knees.

I found Photoshop on ebay that you can purchase for less than a year of renting it.

Before you sign up to pay a periodic fee for software, look around for a program you can purchase. Three years ago before Photoshop became a rent software, I bought it outright from Adobe. It is up graded regularly and I do not have to continue to pay for it. The idea of renting software only separates you from your money. Even an older version of a software will give years of service.
