I see this as the best solution, since adjusting WB in Lightroom is so easy. Of course, you have to shoot in RAW.

I bought my first DSLR (a Nikon D80) in 2007. I had always been a pretty good photographer, but the technology was almost more than I could handle. I decided to start a Digital Photography Meetup to see if mixing with others would provide what I needed. We now have over 400 members, but guess who has learned the most. Also, I have taken 2 trips to Paris and literally lived with my camera around my next while there. My photography improved by leaps and bounds from that. Good luck!

I have been using the Carry Speed for about 2 months and find it to be more comfortable and more secure than the Black Rapid, which I used for about 18 months. I used the tripod mount for both, but the Carry Speed has a rubber ring that secures the screw when it is tightened against the ball. I really did not care for the Black Rapid.

I don't know if you plan to visit Georgia, but an hour's drive north of Atlanta is Gibbs Gardens. Jim Gibbs, a well-known landscape architect in the Atlanta area, bought 300 acres about 30 years ago and spent most of the 30 years landscaping and terracing it, as well as building his home there. It opened to the public last year to rave reviews. It may be one of the largest private gardens in the country. Every day is different, but I can promise a splendid show, no matter when you go.

At the expense of being harangued for not using the search feature, I HAVE LOOKED FOR AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTION.

I have a new iMAC 27". I spent yesterday afternoon trying to move all my documents to it from my PC. After about 2 hours, I still haven't moved a single file. I thought using an ethernet cable to connect the two machines would be easiest, and even had a set of instructions, but to no avail.

Which bring me to my BIG question. I have a DROBO with nearly 30,000 images on it. DROBO sent me this long email telling me I couldn't just connect my DROBO to my iMAC because iMAC's use a different file system. Told me I needed to backup my DROBO before connecting it to my PC, and then reload it from the backup. That wasn't why I purchased a DROBO.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

When I travel in Europe, I carry all my gear in my Pacsafe camera bag (available on Amazon). I've had a couple of close calls, but because I am paranoid about losing my gear, I have always outsmarted the would-be thief. One thing I hate is to see people carrying their camera. It would be so easy to have someone run past and snatch it. Pacsafe also makes a secure camera neck strap. Oh yes, Pacsafe neck straps have a steel mesh inner core. The camera bags have steel mesh all around as well as in the strap. They also have a nifty combo lock that you can use to lock all the compartments, as well as locking your bag to a table or chair leg when drinking coffee at Starbucks.

The modified and original will both be in LR. You don't have to do anything. One point that I haven't seen made yet is, if you work on a raw file in LR (use LR's editing tools), it doesn't create a new catalog image. Rather, it just exhibits the updated raw file. Remember, tho, that if you like what you see after update, then you probably should export it as a new catalog image. Otherwise, if you go back to that same raw file later, it will still be in the update state. To get it back to the original, just click on RESET in the Develop module. It will take it back to the original raw file. If you save your work after the first editing session, you'll still have that as well.

Wrong, Jerry. You will never be able to destroy or overwrite the original image in LR. Images in LR are non-destructible. I believe the question that is in the export dialog is, "do you want to save this to the catalog"? If I'm correct, what happens is that if you answer "yes", then you'll see two images in the catalog. Depending on how you sort your catalog, they may be side by side. Same for your windows folder. I use NIK Software and Topaz Software and when you save an image from either program, it saves as a tiff file. Then, when I export my finished image (which may be after several attempts at processing), I save it as a jpeg. At any rate, you can't overwrite an image unless you want to, and you can never overwrite your original image.

Lynda.com is an excellent source of instruction. You can use their training for $25 a month. The added benefit is that you can watch anything they offer during that one month period. You're only limited by the amount of time you want to spend perusing their system.

Of course, for free, YouTube has hundred of videos, but you have to decide for yourself if they're good.

I've used LR for about 3 years and just found out last month that the box that pops up as you exit LR that asks if you want to backup your catalog, has nothing at all to do with the actual picture files in Windows. It has everything to do with all the pictures that you see in LR that are actually nothing more than a series of instructions. BACK UP YOUR CATALOG! If your LR program goes south, and you have to replace it, you'll still have your catalog backup to restore and you'll probably not lose anything. Also, be very careful how you export. Do you want an actual file in windows for everything you export? You can do that. Do you only want a second or third image in your LR Catalog, but nothing in Windows? You can do that too. It's all in how you answer the questions in the export dialog box.

Consider Lynda.com. It's $25 a month and you have unlimited access to all the video tutorials on a wide range of subjects during that month. Right now, they only show one video that includes HDR Efex Pro. Or, take a look at YouTube. I lost count trying to add up the videos they have on HDR Efex Pro. NIK Software puts a lot of their own videos on YouTube, but there are also a number of videos from other individuals.

Jerry, when I used PhotoMatix, I don't think it had presets. I just found the whole thing very frustrating. NIK HDR Efex Pro is very intuitive, which I did not find PhotoMatix to be. Here are a couple of examples of HDR processed with HDR Efex Pro.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned NIK HDR Efex Pro. I have used PhotoMatix and find it very unfriendly. HDR Efex Pro is very User Friendly and even comes with a number of presets. Once a preset is selected, you can tweak it still further to obtain the best image. I don't think I'll ever go back to PhotoMatix.

Izzy, with a little help from your friends, you'll see there are many photo opportunities in Atlanta. You might want to start with the obvious, the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. You can go crazy getting just the right pictures of the round tower. If you venture onto Peachtree Street, you'll also see many other buildings worthy of photographing. Go to the Lenox Mall area and take a look at the various building there. Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden are right together and provide a lot of opportunites. If you like churches, inside or outside, look up The Cathedral of St. Philip on Peachtree. You may go inside as long as there are no services in progress. Little 5 Points is a great place to go for Street Photography. Let me know if this helps.

Terry, I, too looked up your photostream on Flickr. Nice work, and it didn't take me that long to find it since there are only 67 items in your stream. I think the one thing you need to start doing is put your EXIF data on all your photos. While it may not prevent future photos from being hijacked, it does indicate ownership and the EXIF data, including the copyright data, will travel with the photo.
