I have also kept a legacy 27" iMac running High Sierra so that I could keep Aperture running while I learn Lightroom or On1. I tried to use Retroactive, but was disappointed in the performance and stability of the application. It would sometimes corrupt an image or just crash out of nowhere. Not helpful when I'm processing tons of images from a wedding. Exporting your current library from it's native application, then importing it into the new machine when everything is re-installed and stable sounds like the best idea. :)
I’m running the same machine as yours, except with 40GB of RAM. LR Classic is working well for me on it The above advice looks good, if perhaps a bit of an overkill. The other thing I see is that your camera raw cache size is exceeding your installed RAM. Try cutting that in half and see what happens. :)
In case anyone beside myself is interested, Aperture runs on Big Sur with a helper app called Retroactive (https://github.com/cormiertyshawn895/Retroactive#readme).
I would like to buy cheap film It can be old out of date or other problems I would prefer not just one roll (unless unusual) a reasonable amount but not a huge amount (I will try and use it) in 35mm and/or 120mm format. I would be open to bulk film for reloading It would be ideal if anyone would donate film to me In the past a camera store owner I knew (He died of old age) gave away outdated film that he got from a local newspaper to encourage both his own customers and people (in general) to come back to film photography. He did have a big following!!

I’ll check. I may have a dozen or so rolls of 35mm in the freezer.
We drove past this beautiful bridge near the town of Bridge of Allan and I got this shot through the tour bus window. I converted it to B&W but I can't decide which one I like better. Opinions please. Mark
I won this lens in a photo contest, but cannot use it as my camera is a Sony. I contacted Amazon about returning it for a refund and they said no--so I am wondering if any of you would be interested in it for $65 plus shipping
Looking to purchase used DSLR + Familiar with and have had favorable experience with KEH, Adorama and B&H.
Just ran across MPB in my searching. Any reviews or experience to share on them?
Yes, I’ve purchased several bodies and flashes from them over the last 3 years and am extremely happy. Great prices for gear that looks and works like new (I select items listed as “Like New” or “Excellent” condition.) My first choice anymore.
Check the SSD drives from Crucial. i’ve upgraded many Macs over the last 3 decades, most recently a couple of 21” 2011 iMacs to replace the old 256GB HD with SSDs and new maxed out RAM. OWCs repair kits are good and their instructional pictures have been very good.
