I am a hobby photographer. My first DSLR was a Canon Rebel XT. Served me well for many years. Then the Canon EOS 70D came out and I bought it along with a wide angle 15-85mm which gave me great landscape and other stuff. I purchased a Canon telephoto 70-300 IS which just a few months ago lost its ability to focus. I used it a LOT. My Canon 70D recently lost the shutter ability. I sent it away for repair and it is now back and working beautifully. But both the wide angle lens and the telephoto are heavy and the camera itself is not small. This fall I am taking a 3-week trip through China and considering purchasing a Sony RX10Mark 4 due to its light weight, smaller less intrusive size and yet still has great features as my travel camera. If I get it a few months early I think I can transition to the Sony interface. Any comments or caveats?

I would take nothing less than a d 850 Nikon with a Tamron 70-200. its a once in a lifetime trip for most and I wouldn't do it on the cheap. I have tried a lot of stuff and nothing compares to it, nothing!

its not meant just to replace the bullhead but I did it with all my tripod head parts around. depending on the base your tripod has , it may just spin right on there for you. isn't this fun

they work great. I use the one shaped kind of like an egg and it will turn 360 for your dominant eye. I got my first for 8 bucks that came with a whole bag of different useful stuff. I couldn't find that deal again so I just got the one I needed. e bay.

I also forgot to ask you if you have a remote shutter release. very important..my neewer was like 14.95 and I use it for astro, flawless. id love to know what your shooting. crop cameras are best for macro. I use my D7200 for macro pretty much only. my bigger ones are way to heavy and will topple the whole rig unless I take it apart, a waste of time when it has to be cropped anyway and you couldn't tell difference. its kinda late3:25,too much caffeine so I'm shutting up,...your welcome, if you need a closeup of my opinions, I'm sure my e mail or messenger handle is on here.

remember I told you this rail I talked about will fasten right to the trip pod ,eliminating the bullhead altogether the nice lady that said macro if fun was right on that and it sounds like she was right about your ball head has some issues but if it has a brand name and part number on it you may be able to get parts for it. isn't this fun?

I do a lot of macro and quite a bit of hand held and the secret there is to get as close to focus as possible and move back and forth slowly with the camera pressed firm against your face. the rail thingy with the knobs works great also. mine is a small machined unit that clamps onto the ball head or not.i have to go find it cuz I forget the name. well I found it after almost breaking my neck .neewer sells it. I got it on amazon and they call it a macro rail.so I went to amazon and searched it and poof! the way it came up, mine is the second one down, the cheap amazon one looks like a knock 0ff of the neewer .they are both prime. the neewer pro 4 way focus $25.49 and its great. it has nice smooth motion and its built pretty well. I shouldn't have to ever replace it.

my sister was just there on a Nat. Geo.trip and that place is incredible plus I've always wanted to go to Galapagos .I wintered on big pine key back in that refuge and I live in one on the jersey cape so going refuge to refuge is great but galagos and equador look like the most beautiful places on earth. my sister is a nurse and her hubster is a doctor and both of them had trouble adjusting when they came back.. bro in law rented a camera from NAT. GEO and took some classes on where to shoot etc. just can't imagine your trip. must have been incredible. I'm in a wheelchair now so im limited for that kind of stuff but where theres a will, right

that looks pretty cool and if your into astro photography like I am and you have a interchangeable lens camera, tri pods can be very affordable, a remote shutter switch and just look around on e bay for a used lens and maybe a teleconverter and your all set. you may need a little help. the only vid I've seen on you tube id is by Tony Northrop but I forget what if anything he tried to sell. there are a couple knuckle heads doing tutorials. its just like anything else in life, you can have anything you want, just go for it. have a great weekend.

aside from being an awful pic, you should limit the time your lens faces the sun and always keep the cap on. the aberration in this pic is terrible and it won't ruin your camera but remember remember setting leaves on fire with a magnifying glass as a kid? well same thing except its cooking your image sensor except faster, same as a laser except that only takes a nano second'good luck, try the moon instead.

7200 is a super little camera. I use mine for macro. your just getting broken in at 53k. it shoots nice video but misses so much with a crop. I have a couple of macro only full frames I use on it with fantastic results. if you going to buy any lenses, buy full frame lenses so that when you move up, you'll be ready. by the time I was ready financially and had some skills, I had probably 7 out of ten lenses were full frame. I also bought a lot of used lenses from Japan and still do. great people who take very very good care of their camera equipment.have a great weekend!

the d700 is a awes0me camera. I don't think it does video but it is an easy choice over a 71 0r 7200.. you have to have a full frame in your lineup. stick with the crop cameras for macro. the question itself can't be answered without knowing your budget or purpose. I use my 7200 strictly for macro, it always has tokina 100mm ATX PRO on it. 7200 is a great little camera and its way different than a 7100 when it comes to the sensor and electronic hardware inside.however the full frame is something you don't want to deprive yourself of. all your crop sensor lenses will fit on any Nikon be it dx or fx. there are a few oddballs that won't and imsorry I can't recall them. but the f mount has been around since the 70's and Nikon has worked very hard at keeping the f mount on everything they make and there are so many fantastic full frame lenses available used from Japan on e bay. it takes a very short time to see the excellence and quality coming from there. the people there take very good care of there stuff and they ship fast. I have bought oodles of lenses and a few cameras from Japan and every one of them was like new. if it has something wrong with it they tell you' you never buy a used camera without getting the shutter count. you don't want to pay your hard earned money on a camera with eleventy billion clicks on it. some people hate him, I love him, the angry photographer on you tube. he is the best and most honest reviewer on lenses and cameras out there and he's not a fanboy or in anyones pocket. just go on youtube and search for the angry photographer and subscribe to his channel. search his page for the d700 and you'll get a review. I think thats one of his naughty vids so just spit out the bones if you don't like bad words. he's come an amazing way on cleaning that up. in my opinion I would stick with Nikon cameras.their lenses and flashes are overpriced and not the best in many ranges but are in many. I shoot Tamron, voightlander and Nikkor and a few others. I have all the g2 lenses and the rest other than specialty lenses are Nikkor. the greatest thing about sticking with Nikon is interchangeability and they are the best in almost all categories. good luck and I can give you a list of who I think is the best on you tube'
