The better camera will not necessarily make you seek out the better location or give you a better artistic imagination for the better shots...

Being in the better location will not make you seek out the better camera or give you a more artistic eye.

but I do feel an artistic imagination, that artistic minds eye may get you off your butt eventually...and buy that better camera and go to that wonderful location to express yourself trying to capture what you see.
(or manifest itself in some other artistic way to express yourself)
So therefore....artistic imagination must be the most important part to start off with. IMHO

Ha! sounds like a wise old saying.... yes, we do get off the boat but they never come around while were at our cabins...maybe our family group is just too noisy for them we must just scare them all off Ha!

Love your bears, and such rich mellow colors...we've never been to Wrangell, we see most of our black bears along the Yukon river on our way up by boat to Rampart but have never been that close!! Wow!

Thank-you very much for your help and ideas...yes, we still live in Fairbanks, and get to Anchorage at least twice a year.
We seemed to have lost the northern lights for a few years but now they seem to be coming back....
(sunspots or something?)
We've had nice results with old 35mm but still floundering with the new digital...will try your suggestions next time they are out.

Hi, we are from Fairbanks as I wrote in the introduction area...but I'm new to forums too and was not aware there was another info area to fill in....guess I otta go find it & fill it out asap!! We get down to Anchorage/Palmer area a couple times a year...especially during the big Palmer state Fair. Palmer is very beautiful, I took a class with the renowned Janice Schofield a few years back....Our class wandered the woods for three days learning about which wild plants are edible and used for medicinal purposes for teas and tintures etc.....it was a very empowering class. now if I get lost in the woods while taking pictures...at least I won't starve !!! LOL ! ;~D

Thank-you very much for your help, we will try the hat/black board idea tonight if the northern lights are out. We have always used a good tri-pod with our 35 mm Nikon, and have continued to use it with our digital.

Hi, We just join on earlier today and I added some pictures...then saw something that said "not" to post pictures unless they are copyrighted...so I removed our photos for now to find out more, but I can't find that same area where it told us not to, and why....
How does one get their photo copyrighted?

Hi, we are Al & Ginny from Fairbanks,AK.
One born & raised the other came here when he was four, all before Alaska became a state. We have both just retired and getting back into an old hobby since we now have more time for travel, staying up all night to capture sunrise, sunset shots and northern lights.
We are having a bit of a problem with getting northern light shots since we have gone digital with our new Canon Rebel T3i, but have always done well and still do with an old 35 mm Nikon. but we would like to use our new one more.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
