Maybe in years gone by, if the Mayors and elected officials of Detroit knew their failure to act would result in the city going bankrupt and their pension payments being terminated or reduced, they would have done things differently. Strong business and governmental leadership saved Pittsburg and Cleveland from a similar fate.

To tell you the truth, I grew up in the fifties and sixties. My teachers didn't pray in class, and didn't teach me the Bible. I was given a Gideon New Testament a couple of times but put in in my desk and never read it. It was too small. However, my teachers also didn't tell me that there wasn't a God because science could explain everything. Bottom line, I never got anything spiritual from the schools or government even fifty years ago. I got it from church.

I want to buy a fine point stylus for my new iPad and would love to get some opinions. I have a Targus one that works ok but the 'point' is more like a blob than a point. Any suggestions?

I have (unsuccessfully) been looking for one of these ever since the first iPad came out! If you find one, please pass the information along ( and I will do the same)!

While out on errands this morning I took a few shots. Like usual, most weren't the works of art I had in mind. Actually, none of them were. It was cool, I wasn't well dressed and I was a little rushed. At about 9:30 am, the sun was bright and causing me problems seeing things in the display on my brand new Nikon D5200.

I'm just picking up a camera again after many years away from the hobby. In high school (the 70's) I worked on the year book staff, and was blessed with access to Nikon and Nikormat 35mm cameras. I've been a fan ever since. But now after so many years, my vision isn't what it used to be. I'm having trouble using the viewfinder, even with the diopter adustment.

Anyway, here are a couple of shots I liked at least a little. Comments, critique, etc. are welcome. Ken Rockwell, if you are lurking, I'm an engineer dam&it, not a professional photographer... (My camera is spotless.)

Actually I think you did quite well! I particularly like the wall art photograph, keep after it Jim, I think you are in the process of transforming from an engineer into a photographer!

I hope this does not sound confrontational because this is not my intent.
You asked about my faith.
Others label posters by their political belief.
I think, in both cases, labeling someone limits what could be learned from each other.
And labeling is done so often on UHH.

I have a sense of humor - my son thinks weird, and, likely rightly so - that often many do not understand is joking.
I post stories that interest me; for their humor or newsworthiness or political implications.
I try hard to make my comments provocative because this is what generates debate on this site.
I have to say I enjoy baiting some of the more outrageous on this site, but I try to use facts and not name calling.

I am not the flaming liberal I appear to be.
Probably middle left and certainly not far right.
But I do agree with many liberal policies and goals.
I will also say that I have begun to rethink some of my positions after hearing some of the reasoned arguments by the more rational on this site.
But, then I step back in horror to my original position after listening to some of the crazies spewing their poison.

In short, do not judge a person by a perceived bias or label but listen to the argument or comment.

That and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee! If the police decide to bust you for any reason, they don't give a flying **** what the justice department says about anything, they will just bust you! ;) ;)
