...... on the north Oregon coast, February 16, 2023. Good birding!
Now classified as a subspecies of Iceland Gull, on the Columbia River beach near Astoria, Oregon, February 9, 2023. Canon R3 with Canon RF 800 ƒ11.
Using Canon R3 with RF 800 and 1.4 extender (1120 mm), hand-held from car window, near Astoria, Oregon, today. Sunshine made it possible!
The good news is that the Canon EOS R3 nailed the "animal eye autofocus" and kept it, so the bird is basically in focus. The bad news is that it was a heavy overcast day with minimal light and a fixed aperture ƒ11 lens. Manual mode with auto ISO, camera set the ISO to 12,800. Fun photo, but a lot of noise. Not enough light for critical details. Svenson Island, Clatsop County, Oregon, February 2, 2022.
Picked up the new R3 yesterday, went to the beach today. Sunshine! This was near the mouth of the Columbia River in Clatsop County, Oregon. Hand held with Canon RF 800, manual mode at 1/2500 second. Mild crop.
Roadside plant but across a ditch, otherwise not accessible, snapped with Canon R5 and the lens I had on, on a cloudy day, hand held. Minimal pp in DPP4. Snowberry (Symphoricarpos ) with Himalayan blackberry (Rubus) on the bottom. Pacific Northwest, Clatsop County, Oregon. Not much depth of field but it shows what caught my attention.
...... sad fact is that I don't use it since the R5. I can't carry 2 for bird photography and the R5 has that animal eye autofocus, which works fairly well. The 1Dx III is such a nice camera I've hung on to it for several months. But someone should be putting it to good use.
