Welcome to the Hog. I usually don't comment on new members, but I want you to know that many here are here to teach and learn. Many are afraid to increase ISO more than 100. Today's cameras can be pushed to 800, 1600 and more with no problems. The F 5 is a wide aperture and does not allow for much of a DOF (depth of field). David

Thanx Meives, sorry for the delay responding...I appreciate any and all suggestions...How did you get that info from my shot? Curious as I have not been able to access it myself...

what is your situation? If you are in an environment you have some control over, use a lens hood...unless you can afford a really good filter. 99% of the pics I take are when I am out in the desert hiking with my dogs or at the creek...but outside, my shots are usually taken while I'm moving or during very short stops, which means my camera is vulnerable. I use a UV filter on my camera all the time, I'd rather have blowing sand or other environmental elements (including my own clumsiness) trash the filter and not my lens. I only take the filter off if I happen to stop and set up for a 'good' shot. Then it goes right back on.

ps: even tho this topic has been "beat to death" I'm glad you asked because A: I'm new here and its the 1st time I've seen it and B: revisiting a topic allows for new points of view and new experiences shared from people who saw it the last however many times....so thanx!

I'm new to UH and am a novice photographer..but I have to chime in here.

One of the things that attracted me to the UH forum was the camaraderie and the supportive positive responses to posts. While surfing the forums before signing up, I had the impression that Ugly Hedgehog is a group of folks who want to share their passion for photography who like to learn from one another and inspire others to pick up a camera and be creative. What I saw was a group who were willing to teach by example and suggestion and who appreciated everyone's efforts, be they experts or novices...or even just really bad photographers. I've seen some fairly 'boring' pics and some truly spectacular ones and a lot in between. I've learned a great deal from suggestions and comments and I've enjoyed the conversations that have little to do with photography but range from a love of classic cars to identifying wildflowers. Personally, I like that folks enjoy their summer vacations and want to share with us!
I'm thrilled when a really great photo is posted in a way that helps me learn how to accomplish the same effect...I'm equally grateful that members post their 'boring' mountain photos and I hope they will always feel free to do so.
I am an artist, I teach creative classes and have curated exhibitions...so while I may not know photography I am familiar with the creative process. Everyone is creative, not everyone is talented in every genre...what is boring or mundane to some eyes might be a great achievement to the person who took the photo. The technical aspects of photography are intimidating and confusing. Rather than complain of boredom perhaps you could share some of your work and help those of us who are learning to understand the process?
