Go to Avila Beach/Pier. Beautiful artsie little 1 street town w/shops. Drive to the end of avila beach drive til you come to a pier. On the right is a cafe called Fat Cats, great food, great fish n chips. Tell Carl the Owner hello. You can drive out on to the pier or walk it. Great shots from the pier, sometimes whale come into the bay there, very scenic!

Hello,
Next week my wife and I will board the cruise ship in LA and will sail on it for 28 days visiting Honolulu/Oahu, Nawiliwili/Kauai and Lahaina/Maui and then continuing to Pago Pago/American Samoa, Apia/Western Samoa, Papeete/Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea. We will be staying for about 9-10 hours in each port, except Bora Bora (36 hours) and Papeete (32 hours) were we will be staying overnight. I didn't know what to expect in French Polynesia so I am carrying with me my Nikon D750 and Z6 and four lenses (16-35mm, 24-70mm, 50mm and 70-300mm) just in case. I don't mind the extra weight but I left the tripod at home.
Can anybody provide me with tips for a good photo-op locations at these destinations? Thanks in advance.
Hello, br Next week my wife and I will board the c... (show quote)

My suggestions is to go to the following site and put where you are going to be and you will see a lot of info on what to see and do. From there you can also book the excursions which will probably cost less than the ships tours. https://www.viator.com/

Everywhere you look will be a "postcard" shot! The water, especially Tahiti and Bora Bora is out of a Disney movie, absolutely wonderful!

Couple of tips:
Ziplock bags-lots of humidity, protect equippment from condensation and rain.
silica bags/gel kitty litter in a tea bag or sock.
microfiber cloths
wet lens wipes
polarizer
hood for lens
raincover for camera and lens.
Umbrellas

Hats and lots of sunscreen!!!

If I was taking your lenses i would take 16-35mm or 24-70mm

I lived in Hawaii and had a place on Moorea, where you are going you can get short downpours and then it is nice so be prepared.

Enjoy your trip, the island are magical and so are the people!

I here what you are saying.
I pleaded my case, she said if you are in the boundaries of the Park and sell your photos commercially you will need a permit and pay $$$.
I am sure there will be some that do not declare their intentions when they enter the Park, take their photos and then sell them.
With my luck, I would be the one to get busted!
Pretty soon this place will be at it's peak of desirability to Photographers when there is a vast carpet of multi-colored flowers are in full bloom.
Just trying to give fellow Hogs a "heads up" what the new rules are!
I know I would be pretty ticked off if I drove any distance to find out when I got there I had to pay and fill out paperwork to take photos with intentions to sell.

I told her I was a landscape photographer with plans to take pictures of flowers, mountains etc.
Just me and a tripod.
She said $50 per hour with an approved permit!
She apologized and said the new rules are non negotiable.

Howdy.
Yesterday I went online to get the phone number for LDSP to inquire if anything was in blossom yet before I took the 1 hour drive to get there. When I went to their website I noticed that they now require both an approved permit and $$$ to photograph for commercial usage.
I called the park and was told to talk to the Park Ranger in person, so I did.
I was told the min. cost would be $50.00 for 1 hour.
I told the Ranger no thank you, she did suggest an area I was not aware of that borders the State Park.
Take a right out of the Park and about 5 minutes on the right you will come to a road called "First Water".
It is a dirt road with MANY dips and pot holes, but doable just drive slow!
There is no cost as far as I could see, had great views of and surrounding landscape of Superstition Mountains.
BTW...some flowers are starting to bloom.

Thank you everyone so much for your time and suggestions! Got some great new ideas. I might head back south on HWY 1 on my way to Yosemite.

Actually both.
Motels along the coast, camping on the Klamath and then heading southeast and two weeks camping in Yosemite.

Hello All.
I am sure this has already been covered and probably many times, but I cannot find this topic in Search. I am sure I am doing something wrong!?
I welcome any and all suggestions of great spots for photography along the California Coast from San Francisco to Eureka, and then heading to Happy Camp on the Klamath for some Gold Panning.
Pretty sure I will have greater luck capturing some good photos than gold nuggets but should be fun anyway!
The wealth of knowledge on this site always impresses me and the unselfish willing to help others is commendable.
Heading North on HWY 1 last week of June, 2019.
Appreciate your help!

I spotted this Magical looking place when first researching for my Bali trip.

https://www.villa-bali.com/en/villa/lovina/halimahs-house

I was going to split my time north and west, ended up staying on the southwest part of the island.
If you are going up north you might want to check this place out.

I will stay here next time I visit the island and have more time.
