Using a white background is problematic. For starters, white background creates a color shift problem due to sensitivity to the lack of eveness of the light. Key green software allows much greater latitude. I worked with white backgrounds for years and it was always hit or miss.
With digital, we no longer have to spend the time and the multiple test shots to get it right. I can concentrate exclusively on my subject and getting the shadows just right and most importantly the pose itself.
I know the background will be perfect no matter what.
You could struggle and use film too, but why?
With key green, I can offer my clients an infinite choice of backgrounds. Biggest problem with green screen; client has too many choices. You may also get too many clients.

Why would anyone want to use a white background? I use only a key green background and automatically produce a white background and a black background for basic shots.
The key green allows me to also place any background into the shot.
Why use a single fixed background that gives the photographer so little post processing latitude?

Yeah, I arrived through the Architectural path as well. Architects have got to be among the lowest paid group. Luckily, became interested in computer programming. Making a living at photography is a real challenge. But, this day in age, nothing is easy.

Beautiful shot. Assuming you have quite a lens? Going to miss those little guys. They have kept us entertained all summer.

Adobe's stuff is great, BUT I get aggravated with the company. For example, I "purchased" the right to use Lightroom 6 but each time I open it, they try to sell me on using the cloud. Why should I use the cloud when hard disk space is so cheap and secure. Then they have a popup that tells me I have not opened their mobile app, which I have no intention of using either.

I love their old PageMaker software, but they stopped supporting it and they never made it available for 64bit. I keep an older computer on my network just so I can continue to use it. To this day, I have not found a good replacement software for PageMaker.

Only one more point. The most difficult part of using Lightroom is understanding their cataloging system. It seems overly complicated. If you just want to quickly import a single lone image and work on it and export it, it becomes a real challenge.

One foggy morning I headed out to nearby Kerr Lake here in Henderson, NC. While waiting for the fog to clear I took this shot of some early bird fishermen at Nutbush Bridge. I was surprised by the results.

Upon closer inspection, maybe all of them are already in effect. Scary!

Hello UH members. I understand that if you take a lens designed for a full frame body and put that lens on a crop sensor body you generally can multiply the focal length of the lens by the crop factor to achieve the new perceived focal length of the lens. In the case of a 100mm prime, the lens behaves like a 150mm lens on a crop body. My question is, if you have a lens specifically designed for a crop sensor body, do you even have to multiply that particular lens by the crop factor at all?

I understand that if you use a lens made for a Canon EOS cropped sensor camera, EF-S lens, on a full framed Canon EOS camera, made for EF lens, you will get interference with the mirror and are likely to crack the mirror..

It's all propaganda. Trump just happens to be better at it than the rest of them. Attempting to apply 19th century definitions to 21st century events is misleading. But look! Who is doing the misleading?

While I am non-religious, I say amen to that. Indeed, look who is doing the misleading; why for goodness sake if it isn't the corporate media owned by the military industrial complex. They don't like Trump's acknowledgement that it was mostly us who caused the mess, so let's clean ISIS's clock and get out. But that wouldn't help their perpetual profit from perpetual warfare.

I would rather use Mussolini's own definition: “F*****m should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power”
― Benito Mussolini

It appears that everyone running for president in both major parties except for Bernie and Trump fit this original definition.

Hi fellow photography enthusiasts. My name is Wayne Spencer, retired in Henderson, NC near Raleigh. Been an avid "photographer" since the age of 8 (now 77) with my Baby Brownie. Was a portrait photographer with a national firm for a number of years; now on my own. This is a most interesting site for photographers. Look forward to entertaining and formative visits. Cheers.
