Nice. My wife and I are going down in Dec/Jan for two weeks. I want to get the shore diving book but some people say it's better to buy it down there as it's a bit cheaper. What do you think?

Sealife 1400 underwater camera with a wide angle lens. We had a total of about 15 sharks just cruising the whole dive. They were so close, my wife got slapped in the back of the head by a tail as one swam by. Totally uninterested in us the whole time.

My wife and I did a shark dive in Roatan 2012 and this was the best shot of the dive. I played with it a little in Lightroom to adjust the color just a bit.

I was a Sergeant in the Army, working in an Emergency Operations Center at Fort Dix during Operation Desert Storm/Shield. I had Lieutenants and Captains calling all the time for equipment and personnel transfer orders. After a couple of weeks we had Air Force and Navy personnel working with us. I had a Captain that had been calling for two weeks asking for the same items (that still had not arrived) and I went off on him. As I was addressing him by his name and rank, a Navy Lieutenant walked buy and literally jumped over two chairs and crashed into my desk to get to the phone. He apologized and told the Capitan he would make sure the item was there ASAP and he would call him back by the end of the day. When he hung up the phone he had a look of (oh crap) on his face and he asked me if I knew who that was. I told him it was just some Capitan who was trying to push his weight around. The Lt. then explained that this guy was not the same rank as an Army Captain (O-3) he was a Navy Captain (O-6) or equal to a full bird in the Army. Oh Crap, now on my face.
Well a week later I'm sitting at my desk when I hear a voice coming from the Operation Center floor. Someone's asking to see Sgt. Harrison, and I recognize that voice from the phone calls. Oh Crap on my face again. I stand up and walk out and wait for the execution. This guy get's a stern look on his face and then he busted out laughing! He said he wanted to meet the Sergeant that kept putting him in his place. My Brigadier General did have a talk with me and my boss afterwards. I had to give a class on the different ranks assigned to the different branches that were working in the Operations Center as my "corrective action".

Thanks for the welcome. I've got three books from Scott Kelby Digital Photography (1,2,3) that I'm just starting to open up and get into. Actually skimmed book 1 and 2 in the last week. I've also played with Light Room and have Photo Shop but haven't even opened it except to make sure it works. Baby steps.....

Not in the near future. We still have friends in the area, but don't get back there as often as we like.

Sea Life cameras are reasonably priced (I own 2 and killed a 3rd), and work well for snorkeling/diving down to recreational limits. They also have video and flash capabilities. My Avatar photo was taken with a Sea Life 1200 snorkeling in Akumal Mexico a few years ago. It's a longer shot as this guy is over 5 feet long and would get grumpy when I tried to get closer.

[quote=RickM1950]Welcome aboard TSHarrison. I live on the East a Coast of Iowa in Davenport.

Thanks Rick. I was a Police Officer in Davenport 1994-1997. We were at Niabi Zoo two weeks ago and I brought the camera there and took a few pictures. We miss the east side of Iowa but DM not too bad either.

Thanks. I've picked up three books by one author (darned if I can remember his name) that someone talked about here. Still reading through the 1st book and learning a bit. What I really need to do is sit down and spend a whole weekend to read and play with the camera just to get a feel for it.

Hello from Des Moines Iowa! I've been following UHH for a couple of months, trying to figure out what camera this old dog should get to take some fun shots outdoors and of a rambunctious (almost) 3 year old grandson. I finally bought a Nikon 5300 and a couple of lenses and thought it was time to introduce myself. So far I am just shooting in auto mode and slowing working my way through some digital photo books to learn a thing or three. I also shoot a Sea Life 1400 for some of my underwater pics while diving.

Didn't anyone notice that "the guy" is Jean Luc Picard from STNG?
