If you haven't already done so, why wait...go for it. Maybe they will give you a discount on the their products.

Thank you everyone for the information and your thoughts. I do have to agree the Nikon lenses are far superior to Tamron lenses. With the onset of Nikon's mirrorless cameras, the decision becomes a little more difficult. For the time, I'll be sticking with Tamron and wait and see what happens with the new mirrorless and Nikon's new lenses for the Z6 and Z7.

Maybe it's my monitor, but the picture of the building needs a like work. First, a crop and straightening is where I would start. That would get rid of the red car in the left corner and maybe prevent the building from falling over (LOL...sorry for the bad humor). Also the shadows, at least for my taste, probably could be a little darker. Adjusting your mid tones will also help the sky. I see a few clouds but they appear washed out. If I may ask, what was your exposure set for? Some of the other things I would try to get rid of (if your the software to help out) would be to eliminate the wire on the right side, and satellite dish on top of the building, not sure what that is on the left side on the roof of the second building and probably the flag pole on the roof of the main building. Hope all this helped. And I apologize for the bad humor.

All great ideas. But here is something to consider. Saving 35mm of photo's to preserve your past is an important thing to do especially for the kids. If yo have the time to digitize all your pictures, great. But what if time is a factor? I had over 10,000 picture I wanted to convert. Some were good pictures, some great, and some not so great. Others were blurry and out of focus. The best thing you can do is go through all your pictures and separate the keepers from non keepers. Then decide which pictures are important to the family and which ones you can trash. Once you have that nailed down, the rest gets easier. Sure you can spend $100 to $300 on a scanner and do all your digitizing at home. However consider this. If you have a Costco near by, let them digitize your photo's for you. They will even put on a disc and return all your masters. This will surely save you a lot of headaches and frustrations. Oh did I mention, its not that expensive.

Good Luck

Lots of great opinions out there. But before you spend your money, do the research. Decide what you can afford and why you are buy the camera you are buying. Most everyday photographers get along just fine with a point-n-shoot camera. Enjoy and good luck :D

Hi Dennis and welcome. Lots of input from everyone and all great advise. Just keep your budget in mind. Making the switch from point n shoot to DSLR can be costly. Your camera selections are all great and anyone of them will serve you well. If you have a friend that owns a DSLR camera ask if you try it out. Sit down with him and have them give you some pointers and show you the features of their camera. This way you'll get a better understanding of what you are about to embark on. Most of all research, research and more research before you commit to buying your first DSLR. You'll thank yourself for it later.

Hi; A hard discussion to make. Both lenses are pretty good and would probably do the job you need. I currently use a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lens on my Nikon and really do like it. Not only because of the cost difference (Nikon being about $1000 more) but the quality as well. The best advice anyone can give you is to look at the MTF (Modulation Transfer Function). Make your comparison among the lenses you are considering and got from there. One thing to consider is the cost. Tamron is about $900 dollars cheaper. Good luck in you research.

Thanks for the reply. I'll will do just that. Recently Nikon was selling their lenses at a discount. The 70-200mm f/2.8G ED was $300 cheaper. Not sure if they are coming out with a newer version or just trying to reduce their stock. In either case I will continue to do my research before I purchase a telephoto lens.

Any suggestions on which lens is better? I have been using a tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 and have not problems getting sharp picture. Guess my most pressing question is, is the Nikon worth the extra $1000 that it cost over the Tamron lens. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Buy what your budget can stand without breaking the bank. There are lots of good lenses out there. Do your home work and then decide which lens will suit your need. I favor the Tamron lenses. Not because I love Tamron lenses, but because they really do build a quality lens. Not to mention their warranty is much better than Nikon's by a full year. To my point, after making several comparisons 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lenses, I could not justify the additional $1000 it would have cost me. Presently, I am doing the same type of comparison for the 70 -200mm f/2.8 Nikon, Tamron, and Sigma lens. Let you know what I decide next time. That's not to say if some can truly convince me that the Nikon lenses are far superior to any other, that I wouldn't buy a Nikon lens.

Happy hunting...

I've been using a Nikon D80 for the past 6 years or so, but recently upgraded to the Nikon D810. Thought it was time... I have lots of questions and hope I can learn lots of stuff from everyone. For now I'll just read.
