A few previous replies mention Steve Perry (backcountrygallery.com).

I purchased a few of his books shorting after I purchased my D850.
Those books were an EXCELLENT investment. I learned how to properly use my D850, and am now very comfortable with this camera.

I recently purchased a Nikon Zfc, and immediately purchased Steve Perry's book for the Mirrorless Camera. Also an excellent investment.

To be a better photographer, use the camera you understand and feel comfortable using.
Some people like Vanilla Ice Cream some like Chocolate. Personal preference. (Of course there are those that prefer Strawberry, there is no one right answer.)
No need to justify your preference, or convince others you are correct, just use the camera you love.
Heck, I often just use my iPhone 14 Pro, and get excellent photos with it.

For me, I switched from a full DSLR with its mirror (a Nikon D850 and D750) to a mirrorless (Nikon Zfc).
For me it was about the weight. Now that I am retired and travelling more, caring a large camera with its large lens left my back aching at the end of the day. So the DX format Zfc with lighter lenses will save my back.

As for image quality. I have Topaz Photo AI, which can fix a lot of the noise and size issues -- exceedling well. Plus a few other helpful plug-ins such as Luminar Neo and the NIK collection. Regardless of cameras, I am happy with my photographic results.

My only decision I have left to make is: Do I keep the D850 and D750, for special occasions, or just use the Zfc which has excellent image quality. (If I do decide to sell off the D850 and D750, I need to figure out where the best place to sell them.)

I have the original Nikon 20-400 lens. I have used on multiple Nikon bodies, including a D850.
This lens is sharp on all the Nikon cameras I have used it on.
It is my number 1 choice when I go to the Zoo. I have many great shots using this lens.
As for focus speed, the speed has never bothered me. Thinking back, yes it is not the fasted focusing lens, but it has not crimped my ability to get great shots.

Do a Google search on the product name. If the top 10 results are all sites selling the product, and none of the top results are scientific analysis (not sales analysis) then ---> It is a snake oil (aka useless) product.

I have the Nikon 18-300 lens. I also have a Nikon D7100 (dx), D750 (fx) and D850 (fx) camera bodies.

On the D7100 and D750, the lens is sharp. On the D850 is soft, usable but soft.

When I go away on Vacation, and want to travel light, I take my D750 with the very versatile and capable 18-300. I love the results I get.

As for my D850, I use my 24-120 f/4 lens. Great results, just missing the extended zoom range.

That is a known issue if you are using Photoshop beta v. 25. What I did to correct it was to go into the Adobe Creative cloud that I have on the desktop and go down to the Beta apps. You will see three dots next to Photoshop beta. I then went to other versions and reinstalled v 24.7. Problem was corrected. Hopefully, they will have a fix soon.

I also reverted to a previous version of Photoshop Beta and that fixed the same issue on my computer.

Also hope Adobe fixes this soon with a Beta version 25.01

Are you saying the higher the megapixels the more it will show more camera sjake

Yes.

I have the Nikon 28-300 lens.
On the D750 that lens is tack sharp. On the D850 that lens is a little soft. The difference is that on higher megapixel cameras each pixel is smaller, so the sharpness of the lens makes a difference.

In the case of the Nikon 80-400 lens, it is tack sharp on both the D750 and the D850.

I was looking at the z30. But decided I need the viewfinder as a backup for bright sunlight. Do you have any trouble viewing the rear screen in bright light?

Yes sometimes in bright light the rear screen is hard to see fully. However, since I just touch the rear screen to set the focus point and instantly take the photo, seeing the screen clearly when taking a photo is not important.
For reviewing the photos, I can turn so my body shades the rear screen and I can see it clearly.

So I am not missing the view finder as much as I would expect.

I have one of the original (version 1) of the Nikon 80-400 lens.

It is an amazingly sharp lens. I have used it many times on a Nikon D850 hand held. I was able to get great photos. Typically this is my go-to camera and lens option when I go to the Zoo to capture animals. Of course the wild animals do not understand me requesting "Stay still so I can get your photo", so I have to use a fast shutter speed.

So a high megapixel Nikon camera with the Nikon 80-400 lens, hand held works wonderfully. And the higher the megapixels the less forgiving the camera is to camera shake.

FYI -- the Nikon 80-400 was the first Nikon lens to have image stabilization. Which works as advertised.

I recently purchased a Nikon Z30 (similar to a Z50 minus the viewfinder). I still have Nikon D850, D750 and D7100 which I still love, each one has a place in my photography hobby.

My new Z30 has a new role. First it is great for Video. I want to learn Video. Since I retired a few years ago, learning new skills is keeping me both physically and mentally active.

Also, the Z30 takes great photos. I look at screen, see where I want the focus to be and I just touch the focus point on the screen. Almost magically, the Z30 focuses where I touched and takes the photo. And while the Z30 has less pixels than my D850, I rarely print larger than 8x10. And I have Topaz Gigapixel if I need more megapixels.

As for weight, I purchased the Z30 with the 16-50 and 50-250 kit lens. (These kit lens are crop lens so are very light.). Therefore the weight of the Z30 and both lens is less than just the body of any of my DSLR without any lens attached. So much easier to just grab the small camera bag and go.

Thankfully I can afford to keep all my camera bodies and lens, and do not need to sell old equipment to afford new equipment.

I am planning on a vacation soon, and I expect to only take my Z30 with its two lens. Mostly to save my shoulder and back from the weight of carrying one of my full frame DSLR cameras. Before I purchased the Z30, I took my D750 with a 28-300 lens on vacation, who wants to lug a full camera setup on vacation, when photography is not the main objective. Yes camera gear weight matters.

With the new AI tools just starting to be available, scammers will use them to remove their bad grammar and syntax, making it harder to identify scam messages.

Oh joy, the scammers now have more tools to trick us. So expect more people to lose money to scammers in the short term.

(I have an account, so I was able to read the article)

TLDR: A small child asks a hypothetical question, can she have a pet Unicorn, and the official response.

Below is the first few paragraphs of the article:

===>. Start Copy of Article <===
Unicorns are maddeningly elusive beasts. Although they have captured the human imagination for thousands of years, no one has yet captured one in return. Or even seen one.

But that’s no bother for one Southern California girl. A Los Angeles County first-grader recently won government approval to keep a unicorn as a pet in her backyard should she be the first to find and tame one of the magical and majestic creatures.

The girl, identified only as Madeline by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, wrote to officials Nov. 14 with the request. She was polite but short and to the point.

“Dear LA County I would like your approval if I can have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one. Please send me a letter in response.”

Two weeks later, the department’s director, Marcia Mayeda, wrote just such a letter. Her response, dated Nov. 30, said she was granting Madeline’s request — with conditions. To legally keep a unicorn, she would have to follow certain rules to ensure her magical-beast-turned-pet was well taken care of.

===>. End Copy of Article <===

The rest of the article had cute instructions on how to care for a Unicorn, and what the LA County Department would do if someone asked to have a Dragon.

A few years ago, I purchased that year's 5 day deal, and it was all training. After downloading it, I never found enough time to watch it all.
After that, I decided to pass if the content was mostly training based.
The original (aka first time they had this promotion) it was actual software plugins and tools, that those were useful.

I did look at this years offer and I have decided to save my money and not purchase it.
